A third suspect wanted in connection with an apparent robbery attempt and shooting death of a Woodford man turned himself in early Thursday.
Accompanied by his attorney, Hercules Mitchell, 33, of 1020 Goff Ave. in Orangeburg, gave himself up to police around 8:30 a.m.
"Warrants were obtained for his arrest," Orangeburg County Sheriff's Office Maj. Barbara Walters said. "We were contacted by his attorney, Byron Gibson, who said (Mitchell) wanted to turn himself in, and that's what he did."
Two individuals believed also to have been involved were arrested earlier this week.
The three arrests came after David Martin, of Savannah Highway, Woodford, was found shot to death in his home Sunday night. An acquaintance of Martin said two men entered the home and shot the 30-year-old Martin.
The OCSO issued a warrant for Mitchell's arrest following what investigators believe was a robbery gone bad.
Police say that around 10:30 p.m. Sunday, a woman familiar with the victim approached the residence in order that the victim might open the door. Two people entered the home and demanded money when the victim answered the door. At some point, one of the would-be-robbers, armed with a handgun, fired two shots, killing Martin, police say.
Law enforcement officials say the gunmen did not obtain any money.
An acquaintance of the victim, who was at the residence at the time of the incident, fled the scene when shots rang out.
That acquaintance, who told neighbors what he had seen, has not been heard from since. He is being sought for questioning by law enforcement.
Kelvin Lamont Johnson, 17, of 1140 Cherokee St., Orangeburg, and Bridgett Elaine Darby, 37, of 148 Majesty St., Neeses, were arrested around 1 a.m. Tuesday and charged with murder.
Darby and Johnson were arrested at separate, undisclosed locations within the county.
On Wednesday, Johnson and Darby were taken before Orangeburg Magistrate Peggy Davis for an arraignment.
Mitchell's arraignment is scheduled for 11 a.m. Monday.
All three suspects, Mitchell, Darby and Johnson, are being held in the Orangeburg-Calhoun Regional Detention Center and will have to go before a circuit court judge for a bond hearing.
