Local teacher supplement staying same

By LEE HENDREN--T&D Staff Writer

The local supplement remains unchanged in the countywide teacher salary schedule for 2003-04 approved Monday by the Orangeburg County Board of Education.

The only pay increase teachers will see in the coming year is a slight 0.6 percent increase, thanks to the state Education Improvement Act supplement.

A teacher with a bachelor's degree and no prior teaching experience will earn $27,867 in the coming year. Salaries increase according to length of service and advanced degrees.

Tim Zeigler abstained from the discussion and the vote, explaining that his wife is employed as a teacher in Consolidated 4.

In other business, the board:

Voted to move its regular meeting day to the third Monday of each month.

Voted to retain the accounting services of C.C. McGregor and the legal services of attorney Robert Horger.

Agreed to invite one or more legislators to give a recap of the legislative session at the board's July meeting.

Approved a slimmed-down budget for the coming fiscal year, as reported in detail in Wednesday's editions.
