ST. MATTHEWS -- Residents of The T&D Region and far beyond are continuing to rally around a 7-year-old St. Matthews girl and her family as they face a very frightening time in their lives.

On June 20, Sarah Grace Jarecki was admitted to Palmetto Richland Memorial Hospital for surgery to remove a tumor that doctors located in her brain. Friends, family and strangers joined together in a prayer vigil for the child.

According to Adam Jarecki, Sarah Grace's father, the results of last week's surgery were "not what we hoped for."

"Doctors removed 99.9 percent of the tumor ... The tumor came back malignant," he said.

Sarah Grace is facing another major day this Tuesday, July 1, when she will undergo a spinal tap.

"We are hoping and praying that the results come back negative," her father said.

He said he and his family are asking that the community continue to remember Sarah Grace in their prayers.

"Depending upon the test results, we will learn what Sarah Grace is facing on the road to recovery. All we ask is that everyone remember Sarah Grace and continue to pray for her," Jarecki said.

The Calhoun Academy athletic director said he and his family have been amazed at the response from the community when they learned of Sarah Grace's plight.

Calhoun Academy Booster Club member Bert Weeks, who is helping to coordinate a barbecue chicken fund-raiser for Sarah Grace on Saturday, July 12, said he has witnessed the community rally around the Jarecki family.

"The support has been overwhelming, not only in Calhoun and Orangeburg counties, but in Richland and Sumter counties as well," Weeks said.

The July 12 barbecue fund-raiser will be held from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Calhoun Academy Gym. Tickets are $6 for a half chicken, baked beans, slaw and bread and are available at Calhoun Academy and Orangeburg Preparatory School and from Charlie Pace at Orangeburg Farm Bureau at 803-536-1530, from Joey Tomlinson at All State in Orangeburg at 803-536-5451 and at Sports Plus, Grove Park Pharmacy and SMS Sports in Orangeburg. Donations to help defray Sarah Grace's medical expenses may also be dropped off at the above locations.

" I have always eaten farm raised hog and I never get sick! Its just another way for the government to control the peoples money. Just keep jumping on the little guy trying to make an honest living...Are we really FREE anymore???Why cant people just mind their own business? Inspections from the USDA have failed in the past and many people have gotten sick from "inspected" meat It doesnt make me feel better knowing that our government looks out for our health. Bottom line>MONEY thats why we cant make moonshine legally:) "

" why is it that someone always has to come up with their own conclusions and if the rest of the world doesn't agree and chose to believe what really happened, flight 93 went down and the total fault goes to the muslims not to our government, fbi cia or who ever else they crased the plane and killed all those three thousand people. what we are guilty of was not being prepared and look what they did and did it with box cutters and mace oh and a so called fake bomb. no one was prepared all our guards were down and this monster knew it. stop blaming the wrong people. this guy or woman that wrote that is probably a muslim anyway. " I think this story has been written in a very biased way. I have a feeling some other things happened that would make it so this story would get less simpathy. If you would like to get the rest of the story I suggest that you look at some of the other sites on this. "
