Fludd still in race, 'in good spirits' despite accident
By LEE HENDREN, T&D Staff Writer Thursday, June 03, 2004Despite being injured in a May 11 traffic accident, Edward L. Fludd continues to be a candidate in Tuesday's Democratic Party primary for the S.C. House District 66 seat, his brother said Wednesday.
"He wants everyone to know he wants to continue in this election," said Leon Fludd, who stays in close contact with his brother. "He plans on pursuing this race with all of the energy he's got. I'd like to emphasize, he's not a quitter!"
Fludd and a helper were driving around putting up campaign signs when his van-and-trailer rig jackknifed on Edisto Road near Orangeburg. After they got out of the van and attempted to straighten the trailer, another vehicle struck Fludd.
After initial treatment at Palmetto Health Richland, Fludd has since been transferred to the William Jennings Bryan Dorn VA Medical Center in Columbia, his brother said.
"He's going to have to go through some extensive therapy on his leg. That's the main health issue now. He's getting around in a wheelchair," Leon Fludd said.
"He's in good spirits. He never let the accident get him down."
