As is the tradition across America, groups throughout the T&D region will be celebrating the Fourth of July with cookouts, flags and, of course, fireworks. Below is a listing of events taking place this holiday weekend, guaranteed to make the celebration of our country's 229th birthday all the more special.

  • The 1968 class of Wilkinson High School will have a Fourth of July Celebration at the home of Dianne Nelson, located at 2355 Beach Dr., Saturday, July 2. All class members are urged to attend.

  • FORT MOTTE — Fort Motte will hold a 4th Community Reunion and Festival on Saturday, July 2, in the Old Town Square, located on S.C. 419. The celebration will have a street festival, vendors and crafts, food and entertainment provided by musical groups and a disc jockey. The festivities will be held on "Main Street" in Old Town in front of the post office. The event is sponsored by the Friends of Fort Motte.

  • COLUMBIA — Fort Jackson will host its annual Independence Day celebration "Torchlight Tattoo" at 8:30 p.m. Saturday, July 2, at Hilton Field. The festivities feature a cannon salute to each state and territory of the United States, music by the 282nd Army "Victory" Band and a 30-minute fireworks display.

  • The Orangeburg Department of Public Utilities and the City of Orangeburg are inviting the public to the 12th annual Fourth of July celebration Monday, July 4, at the Orangeburg County Fairgrounds. Gates will open at 6:30 p.m., with the program starting at 8:45 p.m. and the fireworks display beginning at 9:15 p.m. Parking will be available on the Orangeburg County Fairgrounds. Admission is free, with American flags and balloons available for children on a first-come basis. Food and refreshments will also be on sale.

  • BAMBERG — Maurice Williams and the Zodiacs will perform at the Bamberg July 4th celebration Monday, July 4, at Bamberg's Ness Sports Complex. The gates will open at 6:30 p.m. Admission is free. Those attending the July 4th celebration can expect a high-energy mix of Carolina beach music, authentic Motown, classic rhythm and blues. The fireworks will begin at 9:30 p.m.

  • SPRINGFIELD — Springfield's 9th Annual Fourth of July Trailwalk and Fireworks will begin with a patriotic ceremony at 8:30 p.m. Monday, July 4, at the Old Railroad Platform, followed by a fireworks show at 9 p.m. Hot dogs, chips and drinks will be for sale.
