Orangeburg County

Sheriff’s Office

An Orangeburg woman told a deputy Wednesday that her 33-year-old son has been begging her for money to buy drugs. She said she wants him out of her house.

When the deputy attempted to talk to her son, he ran into the house, locked the door, exited through the back door and ran into the woods, according to an OCSO incident report.

The deputy circled the neighborhood and came back to the house and found the woman’s son at home. The son attempted to run again, but the deputy warned him, according to the report. He ran to the front door, but his mother stopped him.

The deputy charged him with loitering and transported him to The Regional Medical Center because he claimed to have a broken rib. The hospital cleared him for jail.

In an unrelated incident, an Orangeburg teenager and her grandmother argued about food, according to an OCSO incident report.

The 17-year-old told a deputy Wednesday that she and her grandmother argued over who cooked French fries and hot dogs. The teen said she tried to walk out of the house and her grandmother came behind her and tried to hit her with a fishing rod.

The teen said she went outside and her grandmother followed her and struck her in the face, causing an abrasion on her right cheek. She said her grandmother then slapped her, knocking her to the ground.

The teen said she does not wish to pursue criminal charges but wanted the incident documented.

" I agree with the others comments about grandparents should be relaxing, but we don't really know the situation with her parents and the grandma could just be angree with the childs parents. She could also be abusing this child who is almost grown. How do we know she is not a working teenager and someone else in the house cooked the food. To make a long story short my mom watch my kids and i have seen she fuss on the drop of a dime for almost nothing all the time even with me. So I just think they don't want there grandchildren to turn out like there kids who really knows but them. And one more thing kids deserve a little respect too otherwise we are teaching them to respect no one. So to avoid anymore arguing she walked out side to cool off we were kids once to and have done the same thing at one point in time so think before we judge either one of them. "

" It breaks my heart to hear that a person is so addicted to drug that he is not aware of how it is affecting his state of mind or how its affecting his mother. It must be painful emotionally, physically, and spiritually to be addicted to drugs or have a child on drugs. How can we as a community make a difference?? Its not just their problem but our problem as a society to take care of each other. It should not matter who you are we are all our brother's keeper. I challenge every White American, African American, Native American, Asian American, Republican, Democrat, Rich,Poor, to make a difference... "

" I would like to add on to that last sentence from Out Of Towner. When you think you are grown and think you have learned e v e r y t h i n g you need to know get a JOB and move in your own house. One thing about grandmothers, they know exactly what to do for unruly children. "

" Was the grandmother on some type of drugs? Why would she hit her with fishing rod in the face? Most important, Where was this teen's mother or father? Too much responsibilities are being put on the grandparents. These are our children. Let's be responsible parents and raise and teach our own kids discipline. Our parents raised us. Let's do our part for our own kids.Grandparents are suppose to be relaxing with no aggravations. We have been aggravating enough when we were their kids. So Parents , BE PARENTS TO YOUR OWN KIDS!!!!> "

" I know the incident goes much deeper than cooking hotdogs and fries.Did the young woman clean up her mess.Kids respect your elders and the residents you stay in.When you think you are too grown and think youve learn everything you need to know "
