Future leaders
By SPECIAL TO THE T&D Tuesday, June 06, 2006On June 11-17, five Calhoun Academy juniors will be attending Palmetto Boys State at the University of South Carolina.
American Legion Post 127 of Elloree/Santee sponsored two Boys Staters:
*Aaron Clossman of Elloree is on the varsity football and soccer teams. The son of Mr. and Mrs. Dan Clossman, he is a member of the Beta Club and the Fellowship of Christian Athletes.
*Wesley McKeowen of Elloree is a member of the varsity football and soccer teams. The son of Mr. and Mrs. Chuck McKeowen, he is a member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes.
American Legion Post 12 St. Matthews sponsored three young men:
*Drew Jackson of Elloree is a varsity soccer player and a member of the National Honor Society. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Kirby Jackson.
*Kendall W. Wannamaker Jr. of St. Matthews is junior class secretary/treasurer and co-head graduation marshall. The son of Mr. and Mrs. Kendall "Kent" Wannamaker Sr., he is a member of the National Honor Society and plays varsity football and soccer.
*Matthew Wannamaker of St. Matthews is a varsity football and baseball player. The son of Mr. and Mrs. David Wannamaker of St. Matthews, he is a member of the Beta Club and the Fellowship of Christian Athletes.
These Calhoun Academy students will join other rising seniors from across the state to study local, county, and state governments. The Boys State program endeavors to educate young people in the duties, privileges, rights and responsibilities of American citizenship.
