Various patriotic organizations and individuals have organized to hold South Carolina's first Sounds of Liberty program, patterned after the bell ringing held each July 4 at Independence Hall in Philadelphia.

At 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 4, the Descendants of the Signers of the Declaration of Independence (DSDI), in cooperation with the Fort Jackson Color Guard and Chaplain, American Legion Post 195 of Lugoff, the Rev. Michael Bragan and Greg Pipkin of Providence Presbyterian Church in West Columbia and others will conduct the ceremony on the State House grounds at the site of the Liberty Bell replica located between the Hampton and Brown buildings. the speaker will be Bonnie Glasgow, State Regent for the Daughters of the American Revolution.

"Tappers" will ring the state Liberty Bell replica 13 times in commemoration of the 13 original states and their signers of the Declaration of Independence.

The public is invited. Bring a blanket or a lawn chair. Dress casual.

For more information, contact Joseph Heyward Rawl, 2006 South Carolina Chairman, DSDI Sounds of Liberty at (803) 234-7844 or (803) 767-3955.
