DENMARK – A Denmark man was jailed late Friday night, and a murder warrant was being prepared against him, about nine hours after his estranged wife was shot and died.

Edward Tyler said his son, Edward Chauncey Tyler, 31, of Denmark, shot and killed his wife of nine years, Roslyn R. Tyler, 37, of 1954 Honey Ford Road, Denmark.

The father and son lived next door to each other in Tyler Estates, a small community about five miles south of Denmark.

Edward Tyler, surrounded by his brothers and his pastor, registered shock and sorrow, as did they.

“They were arguing over a V,” Edward Tyler said. “The argument started in my front yard. He (Edward C. Tyler) went back in the house and got my gun and shot her.”

Edward Tyler said Roslyn fell and Edward C. Tyler shot her again.

Edward Tyler’s brother, Ruben, arrived on the scene about 15 minutes after the incident. Several hours afterward, he was still shocked by what he found there.

“I think it must have been about 3:30 (p.m.) when I got here,” Rubin Tyler said. “She was lying right over there,” he said pointing to a spot where Edward C. Tyler’s yard met his father’s.

“I think she was still alive when I got here,” Rubin said. “It looked like to me, she was still fighting for her breath.”

He said the Denmark Rescue Squad did what they could, but she was pronounced dead on the scene.

Edward Tyler said after the incident, Edward C. Tyler took Roslyn’s car, a grey 2002 Ford Explorer with South Carolina tag number 330-UYL, and left the scene.

Bamberg County Sheriff Ed Darnell said Department of Natural Resources agents from Bamberg, Barnwell and Allendale counties assisted sheriff’s department personnel in searching for Tyler. Darnell also enlisted the aid of the State Law Enforcement Division’s helicopter.

About an hour after the incident, when the body was removed, the word had cut through the small community like a razor. The yard and house were full of people – neighbors, friends and relatives – offering condolences and sympathies.

“We’re sorry this happened,” Edward Tyler said. “We didn’t expect it. We’re so sorry for Roslyn’s family and our own family.”

The Rev. Jason Copeland, who has been the family’s pastor for three years, was on hand to offer comfort to the family in the midst of crisis and pain.

“Along with my prayers for Roslyn’s family and Chauncey’s family, I elicit prayers from the whole community for these families. This is a time that they all need our prayers,” he said.

" Another great individual killed, this world makes me sick!!! How could a person do something so evil?iI didn't know Rosylnn as well as i would have liked to, but occasionally we came across one another and had some personal conversations. The Rosylnn that i knew never did anything to anybody and this is a horrific crime that shouldn't have happened. i keep remembering the last time that i saw her, she gave me some advice and i just wish that she had followed that same advice. My prayers are with her family, God bless you all. " I knew of this family for a short time. I knew of the abuse from day one of our meeting. I can recall a time that Roslyn took her kids and moved away but was back a short time later. I agree with "Tiffany" we must leave those who abuse (not just women, men also). People say that love is blind, but sometimes we must look beyond love and see the truth. I pray that Rosalyn's life was not taken in vain, I hope someone learns from this incident. Roslyn has beautiful children, a young son and a daughter that's a young adult, now they are without a mother. I just wish someone could have walked away, Chauncey or Roslyn, before things went this far. My deepest condolences go out to the families that are in pain. "

" This is really a big shock to the Denmark community. We always see it on the news and in other communities but not our own, but this time it has. This is a wake-up call to all of us.Being in a relationship for the sake of being in a relationship is not worth all the pain and stress that you encounter on a day to day basis. Yes, every child should to raise by their mother and father but not when there's a lot of fussing and fighting going on it's not healthy and it's going to effect the child socially and emotionally. NO child should have to encounter that. To persons in relationshipsmake sure that you both can get along. A relationship takes work, work, and more work, and when you get married your work is never done. Most importantly you CANNOT be unequally yoke. GOD must be at the head of EVERYTHING that you do and if he isn't your setting yourself up for failure. To the family hold your head up know that God is able he's a great God there's NO one like him. HE will help you get through this. "

" ROS, I WILL MISS YOU DEARLY. THE LAST TIME WE SPOKE, SHE HAD ASKED ME TO COME HOME AND VISIT SO WE COULD DO LUNCH. I REGRET THAT WE WILL NEVER HAVE THAT CHANCE TO TALK LIKE SHE HAD WANTED. IT SADDENS ME SOOO MUCH THAT NO ONE IS PROMISED TOMORROW, HOWEVER THIS WASNT THE WAY SHE SHOULD HAVE LEFT. HER HUSBAND SHOULD BE PROSECUTED TO THE FULLEST EXTENT OF THE LAW BECAUSE NO ONE HAS THE RIGHT TO TAKE ANOTHERS LIFE. HE DIDN'T GIVE HER LIFE, WHY DID HE FEEL HE HAD THE RIGHT TO TAKE HERS?? HE DESERVES JUST WHAT HE GETS!!!! "

" I am tired of women losing their lives over a man's rage. If you are in a relationship and the man is jealous, please get out. Many women are in the grave yard because they felt that their man or husband would NEVER harm them. Nobody ever believes a person is capable of harm until it is too late. My prayers and deepests sympathies to the family. Now a child has to grow up without his mother and father which is totally unfair. May God be with you in your time of need. "
