ST. MATTHEWS – “Thank you, Jesus!” Debra Fredrick, the winner of the District 5 seat on the Calhoun County School Board, said Tuesday night.

“I’m really happy. My constituents showed what they think of me. I’m sure proud of them,” the incumbent added.

Fredrick, who manages the office of the local Department of Motor Vehicles and is the wife of a local high school coach, defeated her challenger for the seat, Otis Culclasure, a former high school teacher and coach, 470 to 295.

The District 2 race was a squeaker, with Tom Arant, an outspoken Libertarian, edging out Isaiah “Ike” Holman by a vote of 338 to 326. Incumbent Trustee Eliza Claxton did not seek re-election.
