GEORGETOWN, Ky – Former Voorhees and South Carolina State forward Chris Lee came back to haunt one of his old teams Saturday.

Lee scored a game-high 17 points and grabbed 12 rebounds to lead 17th-ranked Georgetown (Ky) to an 85-60 win over Voorhees College. It was the worst loss suffered this season by the Tigers of Denmark, who were held to 36.1 percent shooting from the field, 6-17 from three-point range and were outrebounded 43-28.

Marcele Street was the leading scorer for Voorhees (10-4) with 12 points, followed by Corey Mikel with nine.

The Tigers of Georgetown (16-3) shot 51.5 percent from the field and had five players reach double figures. Craig Schoen, Brian Silverhorn and Justin Taylor all scored 13 points and Eric Fields added 10.

Voorhees returns home Tuesday to play host to Oakwood College at 7:30 p.m.

PREP BASKETBALL

  • Branchville sweeps

    Fox Creek

    BRANCHVILLE – Chaz Williams scored 28 points and Eric Bowman had 13 points and 11 rebounds as Branchville 80-38.

    Also scoring in double figures for the Yellow Jackets (10-4, 5-1) were Karon Washington with 15 points and Branch Valentine with 10 points and 12 rebounds.

    Courtney Simmons scored 12 points and Essence Denbow added eight as Branchville picked up a 36-25 non-region victory over Fox Creek on Saturday.

    The Lady Yellow Jackets (3-11, 1-5) next play Cross Tuesday at home.

  • Lake Marion teams

    beat Bethune-Bowman

    BOWMAN – Anthony Keitt scored 20 points, grabbed six rebounds and had four assists and Johndre Jefferson added 19 points and 17 rebounds as Lake Marion pulled out a 52-49 win over Bethune-Bowman Saturday night.

    The win improved the Gators to 8-5 overall and are 3-0 in Region 7-AAA.

    Shelton Brown scored 19 points and Lon Hampton added 13 for the Mohawks (15-6), who dropped their second straight after winning nine in a row.

    The junior varsity boys’ contest was also won by Lake Marion 75-46 behind 15 points, eight assists and eight steals from Sheldon Butler and 15 points and eight steals from Daquan Lawson.

    Travius White also scored 15 points for Lake Marion (6-2) and Adrian Void had 10 points and 11 rebounds.

    In varsity girls’ action, Lake Marion improved to 14-2 overall following a 47-40 victory.

    Paige Brown scored 13 points and Jasmine Smith added 10 for the Lady Gators.

    Laquanda Williams scored a game-high 18 points and Jasmine Shuler added 12 for the Lady Mohawks.

    Bethune-Bowman next plays host to Lincoln on Tuesday, while Lake Marion travels to Stall.

  • HHA sweeps

    HOLLY HILL – Three players posted double figures in points and rebounds for Holly Hill Academy as it defeated Cathedral Academy 73-52 on Saturday.

    Jesse Martin scored 24 points and grabbed 11 rebounds, Ethan Connor had 12 points and 10 rebounds and Phillip Carson added 24 points, 10 rebounds and six assists to lead the Raiders (15-1, 1-0).

    Heath Runion led Cathedral Academy with 21 points and Blake Ferguson had 15 for Cathedral Academy.

    In junior varsity action, Stephen Eaddy, Chris Schaefer and Nick Martin each scored 10 points in a 48-20 win.

    HHA (8-2) next plays at St. John’s Christian Academy on Tuesday.

  • Lady Raiders win

    HOLLY HILL – Hannah Way scored 19 points and Roberta Shuler added 12 points and grabbed eight rebounds to lead Holly Hill Academy to a 50-38 win over Cathedral Academy.

    The win improved the Lady Raiders to 11-5 overall and 1-0 in the region. They will next play Tuesday at St. John’s Christian Academy.

    Stephanie Adinalci scored 14 points to lead Cathedral Academy.

  • OPS falls to .500

    COLUMBIA – The Orangeburg Prep varsity boys’ basketball team had its mark evened to 7-7 on the season after Saturday’s 84-72 loss to Ben Lippen.

    Ben Ford scored 28 points and Chris Frazier had 19 points and 10 rebounds for the Indians.

    Ben Lippen also won the junior varsity game 42-22. Mason Hay had eight points for the JV Indians.

    OPS returns to action Tuesday at Thomas Sumter Academy.

  • OPS girls sweep

    COLUMBIA – Jenna Smith scored 16 points and grabbed five rebounds and Lauren Holley had 12 points as the Orangeburg Prep varsity girls’ basketball team defeated Ben Lippen 40-31 on Saturday.

    Whitney Rhoad had seven points and nine rebounds for the Lady Indians (10-5), who next play Thomas Sumter Academy on Tuesday.

    Erin Jordan scored 16 points for the Lady Falcons.

    The OPS junior varsity team remained undefeated with a 51-14 trouncing of Ben Lippen.

    Cayce Ulmer scored 10 points, Kay Edwards had nine and Sallie Covington added eight for the JV Lady Indians (11-0).

    Mary Grace Ballew scored eight points for Ben Lippen.

    n Calhoun Academy

    B-teams victorious

    ST. MATTHEWS – The Calhoun Academy boys’ B-team improved to 4-0 on the season following a 28-23 victory over Holly Hill Academy on Saturday.

    Jamie Sanders scored 15 points to lead the B-team Cavaliers.

    In B-Team girls’ action, Calhoun Academy improved to 2-2 after a 20-14 win.

    Jessica Barron, Morgan Fanning and Bailey Edwards each scored six points in the win.

    Hannah Murphy had five points and Whitney Robinson added four for HHA.

    Calhoun Academy will play host to Thomas Sumter Academy on Tuesday.

    CORDOVA – Edisto Sports Inc. is currently holding registration for Dixie Youth Baseball/Softball for the 2007 season for ages three to 12 who will in the Orangeburg Consolidated District Four Area.

    Registration is $35 and will take place at Edisto Sports Field Canteen, located beside Carver-Edisto Middle School Jan. 20 and 27th and Feb. 3 and 10th from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Participants can also sign up at Dukes Farm Supply in Branchville from Jan. 20 to Feb. 10.
