New Ehrhardt Town Council member sworn in

William Edinger was sworn in as the newest member of Ehrhardt Town Council during Tuesday night’s regular meeting with his wife, Waldine, at his side.

Edinger is filling the unexpired term of Willie Campbell, who resigned from Council because of health and other personal reasons.

During the meeting, Town Administrator Scott Neely reported there are still operational problems at the town’s new wastewater treatment plant spray-field. A number of spray nozzles are out of alignment, and others have broken off completely, he said.

Neely said the final payment has not been made to the contractor and will not be made until the problems are solved.

After input from Ehrhardt Volunteer Fire Department members, including Chief Steve Chassereau, the council elected to implement a points system that will yield a bonus for firefighters at the end of each year. The points system is intended as an incentive to retain veteran volunteers and encourage new members to join.

Council will determine the dollar amount to put towards the points system when they develop the town’s 2006-2007 budget.

In other business:

  • Council members heard a report from Neely concerning the town’s possible use of the Mary Ann Morris Animal Shelter as it considers implementation of an animal control system.

  • n Council approved advertising for someone to seed and mow the wastewater treatment spray-field as a means of maintaining the property.
