ST. MATTHEWS -- Calhoun Academy varsity baseball fell to Wilson Hall 4-1 Monday. Losing pitcher was Jonathan Wise. Shandon Kemmerlin had a double. CA is back in action Wed. on the road at Richard Winn.
BRANCHVILLE -- The Branchville Yellow Jackets and Bowman Academy Bulldogs split a doubleheader Monday. The Bulldogs took game one 3-2 with Tripp Looper getting the win. Tyler Looper took the loss. Leading hitters for the Jackets were Jared Shider, Justin Ross and Benji Kinsey, two hits each. Leading hitter for BA was Andy Till. In game two the Jackets won 7-6 with Tyler Metts getting the game-winning RBI. Shider picked up the win for Branchville. The Yellow Jackets are in action today at Baptist Hill.
Orangeburg Prep’s B-Team defeated Edisto 6-3 Monday, winning pitcher for the Indians was Sean Odom.
OPS (5-3) is back in action Wednesday at home against Laurence Manning.
COLUMBIA -- Orangeburg Prep softball fell to Cardinal Newman 7-2 Monday in Columbia. Kelly Puckett took the loss. Leading hitters for OPS were Hannah Burk, Michelle Whitman, Barkley Stoudemire, Kayla Mims and Morgan Houser.
OPS will face Wilson Hall today at home.
ST. MATTHEWS – Calhoun Academy fell to Wilson Hall in softball action Monday, 10-0 in five innings.
Jessica Orso was the losing pitcher and Kelsey Sanders was 1-2 for Calhoun, who plays Colleton Prep Thursday.
CORDOVA -- The Edisto JV soccer team defeated Branchville 1-0 Monday as Shawn Cramer netted the only goal of the game. Edisto goalie Nick Parler added 12 saves.
The Orangeburg Christian Academy softball and baseball teams picked up wins Monday.
In softball action, OCA defeated Ferndale Christian Academy, 15-13. Winning pitcher was Tara Adams. The Lady Patriots host Clarendon Hall Monday.
Lance Haddock picked up the win as the Patriots edged Glenforest Academy, 9-8. The team returns to action Friday at North Walterboro.
Calhoun Academy remained undefeated in soccer Monday with a 7-2 win over The Kings Academy.
Leading Calhoun (7-0, 5-0) on offense were Stuart Brunt, four goals, one assist; Matt Jones, one goal, two assists, Patrick Taylor, two goals; Kendall Wannamaker, one goal; and Zack Spigner, one assist.
Keeper John Brunt had eight saves in goal.
CA hosts Wilson Hall Thursday at 5 p.m.
COLUMBIA – Orangeburg Prep School fell to Cardinal Newman in soccer action Monday, 4-0.
Michael Williamson had 20 saves in goal in the loss for OPS. The Indians will be back in action today at Wilson Hall at 6 p.m.
Wilson Hall edged the Calhoun Academy JV baseball team Monday, 6-5.
Losing pitcher was Jordan Rucker. Leading CA (1-5) in the loss were Jeff Grubbs with two hits and an RBI; Matt Arant, two hits and two RBIs; and Aric Smith, one hit and one RBI.
The JV team travels to Winnsboro Wednesday to take on Richard Winn.
Holly Hill’s Tres Bessent, a senior and co-capton on Pinewood Prep’s Tennis Team, helped his team to wins over Bishop England and Palmetto Christian last week Pinewood is undefeated at 11-0.
Pinewood defeated Bishop England 4-3. Bessent won his singles match, 6-3, 5-7, 12-10. In the 6-3 win over Palmetto Christian, Bessent lost his singles match, 4-6, 7-5, 8-10, but rebounded with partner Jeremiah Dye to win the doubles match, 6-3, 6-0.
Pinewood plays Palmetto Christian today at Porter Gaud Thursday.
Holly Hill Academy came out on top of a region golf match against Calhoun Academy and Dorchester Academy Monday with a team score of 157.
Holly Hill’s medalist was Shane Belanger with a 38. Contributing golfers were Blake Armstrong (39), Jonathan Rudd (40) and Mac Stephens (40).
Calhoun Academy took second place with a team score of 164, with Grayson Blackwell earning medalist honors with a 39. Dorchester Academy shot a 169 and Kendall Nowocin was medalist with a 37.
The three team meet again Thursday at Calhoun Country Club.
MANNING – Mason Toole drew the bases loaded, two-out walk in the bottom of the eight inning to give the Orangeburg Prep School Indians a 3-2 win over Laurence Manning Monday.
Brad Felder had eight strikeouts as winning pitcher. Leading OPS at the plate were Ryan Salley, 1-1 with a double; Laurence Fogle, 2-4 with one RBI; Austin Godwin, 2-4; and Zack Livingston, 1-3 with a double.
The Indians host Colleton Prep today at 7 p.m., following the JV game.
HOLLY HILL – Holly Hill Academy defeated Carolina Academy 6-2 at home in softball action Monday.
Winning pitcher Rachel Carpenter improves her record to 5-2. Leading hitters were Mary Lockey, 2-3; Brittany Dantzler, 1-2 with two RBIs; and Carpenter, 1-2.
The Lady Raiders (11-3) host Colleton Prep tonight at 7 p.m. in a region game.
SWANSEA – A solid all-around effort led the Bamberg-Ehrhardt soccer team to a 7-4 victory over Swansea Monday.
Scoring goals for B-E were Rodney Lewis, three goals, two assists; Rondu Forbes, two goals, one assist; Ben Hutto, one goal, one assist; Trey Mintz, one goal; and Aaron Ness, one assist.
Defensive leaders were Que Verner, Damien Jones and Laquinn Nimmons.
The Red Raiders (6-3-1) will travel to Edgefield Thursday for a 6:30 game against Strom Thurmond.
FRIDAY GAME
The Calhoun County baseball team defeated Hunter-Kinard-Tyler 21-0 Friday.
Erik Culclasure struck out 11 batters, and didn’t allow a hit to get the win for Calhoun County. Dexter Evon was 3-for-3 at the plate with 4 RBIs.
