Local veterinarians and clinics are offering rabies vaccinations against the acute, infectious and often fatal viral disease that is spread by the bite of infected animals. Vaccinations range from $3 to $5 at most sites.
It’s the law. It’s not an option. The owner of a non-vaccinated domestic pet may be found guilty of a misdemeanor and fined up to $500 or imprisoned for up to 30 days.
Dates, times and locations of special rabies vaccination clinics can be obtained from the S.C. Department of Health and Environmental Control’s county health departments and local participating veterinarians. For more information, go to www.scdhec.gov/rabies.
