TURBEVILLE – As a result of the growing demand for Park Model vacation cabins and cottages, Bear Park Models has recently established its corporate headquarters and manufacturing plant here.

The company was started by Orangeburg native Rocky Varn and Santee native Wayne Shuler

The facility is utilizing a 68,000-square-foot building but also has the capacity to expand into an additional 30,000 square feet with two more buildings on the company property.

The plant has already hired 15 full-time employees but plans to grow the work force to 50.

The first three park models are expected to roll out of production on March 14, and the facility plans to increase production to release two models per day.

The facility is located in the former Coker Builders Santee Modular Homes plant.

The Park Model industry has grown significantly over the last 20 years with an estimated 50 companies producing over 10,000 park models a year.

The majority of the growth has occurred over the last few years as the product has continued to evolve, adding more and more amenities to meet the needs of more affluent users.

Park Models, also known as “Park Trailers,”’ are classified as recreational vehicles and are typically used as vacation cottages or cabins.

Bear Park Models manufactures two product lines differentiated by the siding and interior wall options.

The “cabin” line consists of log siding and walls made from pine or cypress tongue groove or cypress or cedar siding while the “cottage” line is produced with fiber-cement siding, GP Smart Side, or vinyl.

Both product lines offer the same amenities, which may include options such as hardwood floors and cedar ceilings, walnut cabinetry, granite counter tops, decorative hardware, bay windows, lofts, name-brand appliances, and plumbing to name just a few.

The company plans to sell its products direct to consumers, RV dealers and campgrounds, along with other distribution channels still under development.

For more information, contact Bear Park Models at 843-659-3595.
