Man arrested in St. George shooting

ST. GEORGE – A man has been charged with assault and battery with intent to kill in connection with a shooting incident in St. George Tuesday.

Elijah Williams, 27, of Park Street, St. George, was arrested Wednesday when he came to the Dorchester County Sheriff#,s Office, according to First Sgt. Michael Miller of the sheriff#,s office.

The 27-year-old who was shot once in the abdomen could be released from the Medical University of South Carolina Medical Center soon, Miller said Wednesday.

Around 6:45 p.m. Tuesday, the DCSO responded to a 911 call from the area of the Woodland Park Apartments off of Park Street in St. George. Dorchester County dispatch notified responding law enforcement officers that a man had been shot.

Upon arrival, investigators found that a male had suffered a gunshot wound from a small caliber handgun. He was transported to MUSC Medical Center.

Investigators have not yet determined a motive for the shooting and the investigation is ongoing.
