By T&D Staff Tuesday, May 22, 2007CHESTERFIELD, Va. -- Orangeburg native Marion Dantzler enjoyed his highest finish of the season at an NGA/Hooters Tour Event this past weekend.
In finishing tied for 19th place in the Base Camp Realty Chesdin Landing Open, Dantzler shot a four-day total of six-under-par 282. His best day was Saturday when he shot three-under-par-69 to move up as high as 16th place.
Nick Rousey won the tournament with a four-day score of 21-under-par 267, seven strokes better than runner-up Steve Gilley. It was the second NGA/Hooters Tour title for Rousey, who collected a career-best $36,168 for his second career tour win.
Dantzler returns to the Carolinas this week when the NGA/Hooters Tours visits Brook Valley Country Club in Greenville, N.C. for the Touchstone Energy Open.
O-W players named All-Region
Several athletes from Orangeburg-Wilkinson were recently selected to 7-AAAA All-Region teams.
In boys' soccer, Chidu Kulu and Phillip Dukes were selected. In girls' soccer, Ariana Tinker and Danielya Tinker were named to the team. In boys' tennis, Levern Keitt and Collin Gates were selected.
B-E players honored
Bamberg-Ehrhardt catcher Brandon Bamberg was recently named to the South Carolina Baseball Coaches Association All-State team.
Also, B-E's Dan Ulmer was selected to play for the South team in the Class A-AAAA North-South All-Star game. He joins teammate Nick Tritapoe in the game.
SCISAA honorees
Several local athletes were recently honored by SCISAA.
In golf, Orangeburg Prep's AJ Andrews, Ford Blanchard and Jacob Burger were selected to the boys' All-State team while Carmen Jones was selected to the girls' team.
In soccer, Calhoun Academy's Stuart Brunt was selected to play for the South team in the North-South All-Star game, and was also named to the All-State team. Other local players selected to the North-South game included: Wesley McKeowen, Calhoun; John Brunt, Calhoun; Shawn Griffith, Calhoun; Aaron Clossman, Calhoun and Travis Tourville of OPS.
Also, OPS' Brad Felder was an All-State selection in track.
