Since ESPNU was created in 2005, its availability among T&D Region sports fans has been limited to viewers who own satelitte dishes.
As of July 19, digital Time Warner Cable subscribers will now be able to catch schools like South Carolina State, University of South Carolina and Clemson University whenever the collegiate sports channel airs their team's games.
On Wednesday, TWC spokesperson Maryanne Jacobs confirmed ESPNU's pending addition to its digital sports tier on Channel 160. She said the demand for the channel was 'hot' among TWC owners in South Carolina, especially during the college football season.
Interest in ESPNU was particularly high in Orangeburg where several SCSU college football and basketball games have aired the past two years as part of a seven-year agreement with the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference.
The Bulldog football team has especially enjoyed the increased spotlight, sporting a 12-0 record in nationally televised cable games and 6-0 when aired by the ESPN family (ESPNU, ESPN2).
An ESPNU spokesperson said Wednesday a complete schedule of the black college football games should be finalized within the next month.
ESPNU will still be available for satellite dish owners of DirecTV (Channel 609) and Dish Network (Channel 148).
