Orangeburg Albemarle plant could see growth
By T&D Staff Sunday, May 27, 2007BATON ROUGE, La. – Albemarle Corp., a chemical manufacturer with a plant in Orangeburg, announced it will move operations of its cGMP (pharmaceutical-grade) pilot plant in Dayton, Ohio, to its recently acquired, multiscale cGMP manufacturing facility in South Haven, Mich.
The move is to capitalize on overlapping equipment and staffing at the two sites. The move will begin before the end of the second quarter of 2007.
The consolidation plan includes an initial reduction in Albemarle’s personnel and contractor personnel at the Dayton facility by the end of the second quarter of 2007, including a transfer of some Albemarle’s professional personnel from Dayton to South Haven or other Albemarle sites.
Rene’ Milligan, Albemarle spokesman, said it is believed at least one person from the Ohio plant will relocate to the Orangeburg area. The extent of the transition on Orangeburg operations remains uncertain, Milligan said.
Albemarle expects to retain a few staff members at the Dayton site through the end of 2008 to maintain operations required to fulfill ongoing commitments to a few key customers.
Albemarle’s Fine Chemistry Services Division provides contract research and development, custom synthesis and custom cGMP or non-cGMP chemical manufacturing services for customers in the pharmaceutical, agricultural chemical and other markets.
Albemarle, headquarted in Richmond, Va., operates in three business segments – Polymer Additives, Catalysts and Fine Chemicals and serves customers in about 100 countries.
