An Orangeburg youth pleaded guilty Thursday to his part in what police say was a gang-related shooting that happened earlier this year.

Alan O. Fields, 17, of 899 Dellwood Drive, pleaded guilty to assault with intent to kill and discharging a firearm into a dwelling.

Circuit Court Judge James Williams sentenced Fields to five years on each count under the Youthful Offender’s Act. The sentences are to be served at the same time.

Fields was charged Jan. 3 after a shooting incident at a Pear Street residence.

A woman at the residence told police that around 9:17 p.m. on Jan. 2, her two sons and she were working on her car when another vehicle drove onto the property. Four individuals in the second vehicle began a heated argument with the woman’s sons, she said.

Meanwhile, the two men working on the car picked up a ball bat and a dumbbell set of weights, which they threw at the subjects’ car in an attempt to make them leave.

The woman said she then heard someone inside the car yell, “Shoot him!” A gunshot rang out, but no one was injured. The subjects then drove out of the yard.

Moments later, however, the subjects drove past the residence again. Two more shots were fired. Again, no one was struck.

At that point, police were closing in on the scene. The four individuals inside the vehicle bailed out and attempted to run for it. They didn’t get far.

Inside the vehicle, police found a .22-caliber rifle loaded with 12 rounds. A bullet hole was found in the side of the woman’s home.

A warrant against Fields claims that all of the subjects are gang members.

The cases are still pending against the codefendants.

In other cases:

n Deamin Huger, 17, of 505 Miracle Drive, Eutawville, pleaded guilty to kidnapping and common law robbery. He was sentenced to 10 years and six years, respectively, on the charges. The sentences are all to be served at the same time.

On May 16, 2006, Huger and several codefendants robbed a man at gunpoint and then forced him into his car’s trunk, according to police. They then drove away in the man’s car.

n Bernard Hill, of 180 Oak St., Bowman, pleaded guilty to three counts of second-degree burglary and was sentenced to 12 years on each count. The sentences are all to be served at the same time.

One of Hill’s charges stems from his breaking into a Post Office box and stealing the mail inside.

However, the two remaining charges were levied against the 43-year-old for breaking into a Bowman residence and ringing up a several hundred dollars worth of charges for a “sex phone service.”

n Julian Corley, 20, of Ivy Road, Orangeburg, pleaded guilty to second-degree burglary and was sentenced under the Youthful Offender’s Act not to exceed six years.

n Marcus Leyseth, 24, of 330 Maxcy St., Orangeburg, pleaded guilty to possession of marijuana over one ounce, second offense. He was sentenced to one year, suspended to 12 months of probation.

n Randall Harris, 18, of 722 Green St., Orangeburg, pleaded guilty to second-degree burglary and was sentenced under the Youthful Offender’s Act not to exceed six years.

n Geyaunha Williams Singleton, 23, of Schenectady, N.Y., pleaded guilty to forgery and was sentenced to two years, suspended to 18 months probation. Singleton was also ordered to re-pay $200.

n Wilbur Tatum, 30, of 1417 Weeping Willow Drive, Orangeburg, pleaded guilty to criminal domestic violence, second offense, and was sentenced to one year, suspended to 30 days and two years of probation. Tatum was also ordered to complete anger management counseling.
