South Carolina's Historically Black Colleges and Universities will receive $14.7 million in grants for institutional aid, U.S. Sen. Lindsey Graham announced Tuesday.

South Carolina State University will receive almost $3.3 million of the amount and Claflin University will receive approximately $2 million. Denmark Technical College will receive $2 million, while Voorhees College will receive approximately $1.7 million.

The money can be used to strengthen academic resources, financial management, endowments and physical plants. The grants were awarded by the U.S. Department of Education.
