SUNNY PLAIN -- Calhoun Baptist Church, located in the Sunny Plain community of Calhoun County, held its 11th Annual "I Love America" Celebration on Sunday, June 24.

Pastor Max Kaster introduced the guests, Park Gillespie, a former high school history teacher and consultant, and Don Ralph, a Pearl Harbor survivor.

The service included patriotic music and hymns and a presentation by Gillespie demonstrating how religion and God played a significant role in the establishment and growth of the United States.

Ralph provided a moving story for the congregation of his experiences in the Pearl Harbor attack as an Army medic who was pressed into service as an ambulance driver at Hickam Army Air Field, Hawaii.

Attending the program were invited dignitaries from Calhoun County including Rep. Harry Ott, Calhoun County Council Chairman David Summers, Calhoun County Sheriff Thomas Summers, St. Matthews Police Chief Capers Wannamaker, St. Matthews Town Councilwoman Eloise Shuler-Guinyard and Magistrate Ethel Wright.
