Ruff Riders Hoop-Stars in national title game

ORLANDO -- The Orangeburg Ruff Riders Hoop-Stars 16-and-under girls' basketball team advanced to the YBOA national title game with a 57-49 win over Delaware's Finest Friday. The Ruff Riders Hoop-Stars are scheduled to take on Tennessee Extreme for the title Saturday.

Krazy Kats tryouts scheduled

The Orangeburg Krazy Katz, a professional women's basketball team scheduled to begin play next May, will hold its first tryout August 18 at the Orangeburg City Gym. For more information, contact Brian Combs or Jamal Wilkerson at 803-316-2645 or at 803-347-8556.

St. George Junior Legion wins

BYRDS -- The St. George Post 105 Junior Legion baseball team beat Chesterfield 4-3 Friday.

Zach Brownlee earned the win for St. George, striking out five and allowing five hits over seven innings.

Brownlee was also 2-for-3 at the plate. Jared Shieder and Etan Bair were each 1-for-2.

The series is tied at 1-1 with the deciding game scheduled to be played at Chesterfield High School this afternoon. Chesterfield won the first game of the series 14-4.

Crestwood golf camp concludes first year

The Crestwood golf camp was held for a week before holding its tournament on Friday. The 20 campers split up into five teams of four and were allowed to put the skills they learned throughout the week to the test. The nine girls and 11 boys were all given golf shirts, a set of starter clubs and golf balls among other items at the camp. These items were all paid for by local sponsors.

The campers also took part in a graduation ceremony where the young golfers received awards for their participation. Ryan Bair won Best Male Golfer while Miriam Brown took home the honors for Best Female Golfer.
