Samaritan House joins forces with United Way
By T&D Staff Wednesday, August 01, 2007Last month, at the recommendation of the Edisto Council, the United Way of the Midlands' board of directors voted to approve The Samaritan House as a certified partner agency.
"We are pleased to welcome The Samaritan House as a certified partner," said Mac Bennett, president and CEO of United Way of the Midlands. "The Edisto Council targets contributions to programs that create opportunities for long-lasting change in the community, and this agency has shown that they are capable of improving the lives of many people in Orangeburg and Calhoun counties."
Certified partner agencies can submit proposals for competitive grants from the United Way.
In 1998, United Way of the Midlands began distributing funds for critical human service needs to the organizations most capable of addressing those needs. This process ensures that the United Way supports high-quality programs by requiring partners to meet 22 minimum standards for nonprofit organizations.
Samaritan House Chief Operating Officer Justin Eshleman said the organization has sought certification for a number of years.
"This ensures when the community gives, they can give with even greater confidence. Inspection is the key to greatness. We invite this partnership to keep us focused on our mission," he said.
The Samaritan House is a faith-based organization created to help the homeless of Orangeburg and surrounding counties. In providing for their physical, emotional, vocational and spiritual needs, the Samaritan House seeks to give its clients a stronger, fuller life in accordance with the promises of God.
