Bowman woman fatally wounded

A suspicious open door led to tragedy in Bowman Saturday morning as a woman later died of an apparent gun shot wound.

According to Orangeburg County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Thomas Brown, deputies and Orangeburg County EMS workers found 22-year-old Shaunvinique Shuler of 2648 Big Buck Boulevard unconscious in her single-wide trailer at approximately 1 a.m. Passers-by alerted some of Shuler’s family members, who live close by, that her back door was standing open. When family members went inside the house, they found Shuler injured and called 911.

“Orangeburg County Emergency Medical Services responded at the same time as the deputies and immediately initiated resuscitative measures and transported Shuler to the Regional Medical Center in Orangeburg,” an Orangeburg County Sheriff’s Office release says. “Shuler was pronounced dead in the emergency room, apparently of a gunshot wound.”

Brown said a motive in the case has not been developed and the case is being investigated as a murder. He did not say if there are any suspects or if the shooting was the result of an attempted home invasion.

“We are exhausting all possibilities in this case,” Sheriff Larry Williams said in the release. “We are working on several theories. The investigation into this incident is ongoing.”
