See Saw Daze Festival will feature Gospelfest, Bikers' Day, more
By T&D Staff Thursday, August 30, 2007HARLEYVILLE, S.C. - Great crafts, good food and plenty of thrills are in store for those attending this year's See Saw Daze Festival in Harleyville on Sept. 7-9.
The festival's opening ceremony will take place on the park stage at noon Friday, Sept. 7, as the Welcome Center opens and the crafts and food concessions begin operating.
Area residents are invited to enter crafts, canned foods and photos in competition during the Town Fair, which will be held Friday, Sept. 7. Entries will be accepted 3 to 4:30 p.m. at the Community Center. While waiting for the judges' decisions, attendees can enjoy carnival rides, which will begin operation at 5 p.m., and a Golf Cart Parade and competition at 7 p.m.
The Tuesday Afternoon Book Club's Bingo Games will follow in the Community Center, while visitors enjoy karaoke and Dancing in the Park with Gonzo.
The See Saw Daze Festival will be in full swing at 7:30 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 8, with the traditional 5K Walk/Run. The Welcome Center will reopen at 9 a.m., and the carnival rides and craft and food booths will be open throughout the day.
Harleyville Mayor Charles Ackerman will welcome visitors at the parade viewing stand at 10:45 a.m., and at 11 a.m., Neal Dye's parade will wow the crowds lining Harleyville's main street. The 2007 See Saw Daze Parade marshal will be S.C. House District 97 Rep. Patsy Knight.
The festival's popular pet show will begin at 1 p.m., followed by jazz, children's games, face painting and more.
Biker Games are on tap for 2 to 4 p.m., as well as demonstrations by Janet Kinser of Keeper of the Wild, Harleyville Fire Department, Dorchester County Sheriff's Department K-9 Unit and the Log Sawing contest.
There will be plenty of dancing on stage beginning at 5 p.m. with the Low Country Dancers, the Carolina Dancers at 6 p.m. and the Wranglers Rocking Country Dance Show at 6:30 p.m.
Dance performances will be followed by a performance by the Limestone Baptist Church GLOW Team.
Dance competitions, karaoke and Dancing in the Park with Gonzo will get under way at 8 p.m., followed by a fireworks show.
A mixed bag of entertainment will be held Sunday, Sept. 9. The See Saw Daze Festival's traditional Gospelfest will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. in the Community Center.
Also scheduled on Sunday is Bikers' Day, beginning at 10 a.m. with the Bikers' Morning Worship Service. From 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., bikers can register for the Benefit Run, which will begin at 1 p.m. After Gospelfest, a Bike Show and Burn-Out Contest will be held, with awards presented at 5 p.m.
