HOPKINS, S.C. - Two new ranger-led programs will be available at Congaree National Park this fall.

The Weston Lake Wilderness Hike will be presented on Friday afternoons from 2 to 5 p.m. on Sept. 14, 21 and 28; Oct. 5, 12, 19 and 26; and November 2, 9 and 16. This 4.5-mile hike will take visitors on the Weston Lake Loop Trail, where they will discover the importance of wilderness. The group will leave from the Harry Hampton visitor center at 1:45 p.m.

Congaree after Dark will be presented on Saturday evenings from 7:30 to 8:15 p.m. At this campfire program, visitors will look at the moon, stars and planets and discuss natural lightscapes. Participants will need to bring lawn chairs or blankets and flashlights with red filters. Congaree after Dark will be held Sept. 15 and 29; Oct. 13 and 27; and Nov. 10 and 24. Visitors will meet at the After Hours parking lot near the park's main gate at 7:15 p.m. No reservations are required for these new programs.
