New museum logo features home of Elloree's founder
By T&D Staff Thursday, September 06, 2007ELLOREE - The new logo of the Elloree Heritage Museum & Cultural Center features the childhood home of the founder of the town of Elloree.
The museum has announced that its new logo is a drawing of William J. Snider's childhood home by museum Vice President Pat McLaurin.
The Snider Cabin is one of the main attractions of the museum's farm wing. Museum founders painstakingly dismantled the 18th century cabin at its original location three miles west of Elloree and reassembled it inside the museum as part of an exhibit of early farm life.
Visitors are fascinated by the full-size cabin and furnishings.
Born in 1831, Snider bought 2,660 acres in the area after the Civil War and opened a crossroads store in 1866. The post office was located there, and Snider's wife named it and the town "Elloree," Native American for "The Home I Love."
The new logo will be displayed in future museum publications.
