Perry appointed SCSU fire marshal

Ronald Perry, a 33-year veteran of South Carolina State University, has been hired as the university's resident fire marshal, acting under the authority of State Fire Marshal John Reich.

Perry is a State of South Carolina Ce.jpgied Fire Marshal and will report to John E. Smalls, senior vice president for the Division of Finance, Facilities and Management Information Systems.

His duties will include fire and life safety inspections, training, consultation and providing technical assistance for university activities. He will also be responsible for safety compliance issues and assisting in the correction of any existing violations.

Perry served in S.C. State's Department of Facilities Management for 33 years. He began in the electrical department, eventually becoming assistant electrical supervisor, before moving into the area of occupational safety.

His most recent position was safety coordinator for Sodhexo, where his responsibilities included servicing burglar alarms, fire alarms, fire suppression systems, fire extinguishers, emergency generators, elevators, emergency call boxes, building inspection, providing new employee safety orientation training and yearly safety training and monitoring Sodhexo's safety program to ensure compliance. He also served as lead sound technician for university events and programs.
