The South Carolina State volleyball team will host the 2007 Spikefest Friday and Saturday in Dukes Gymnasium.
The tournament, which also features teams from Wofford College, University of South Carolina-Upstate and Hampton University, will begin at 12:30 p.m today and 10 a.m. Saturday. TODAY’S MATCHES:

FOOTBALL Edisto beats A-F CORDOVA - In a game shortened by bad weather, Edisto improved to 2-0 with a 13-7 victory over Allendale-Fairfax on Thursday. Malik Brown had two touchdowns, Hunter Padgett was 1-2 on PATs and Ruben Thomas had an interception for the JV Cougars. Edisto travels to B-E on Sept. 20. HHA rolls 46-12 MONCKS CORNER - John Flynn scored three rushing touchdowns and quarterback Jonathan McWaters threw a pair as Holly Hill Academy’s junior varsity team routed St. John’s Christian Academy 46-12 on Thursday. Tyler James and Zach Lawley each caught a touchdown pass and Jay Shuler rushed for one score for the JV Raiders. Lawley also picked off three passes and Michael Ragland had a pick. Up next for HHA (2-0) is a home contest against Jefferson Davis Academy on Sept. 20. O-W beats Summerville The Bruins defeated the Green Wave 12-7 to improve to 1-1 on the season. Kisone Williams had two passing touchdowns to Jamal Scott for 75 and 80 yards respectively. Roger Davenport totaled 75 rushing yards. Defensively, Kadeem Hunter had seven tackles. Carlton Clark added five tackles including a sack. Calhoun Academy falls to Dillon Christian ST. MATTHEWS - The Cavaliers have dropped to 0-2 after being defeated by Dillon Christian by the score of 12-6. Rett Davis scored Calhoun’s only points of the game on a 53-yard touchdown pass from Jesse Reeves. Davis also had 36 yards on nine carries. Reeves went 2-for-6 for 74 yards. Defensively, the Cavaliers were led by Tanner Young with seven tackles. Evan Williams and Travis Carn each had five tackles in the loss. Calhoun Academy will play Colleton Prep at home in two weeks. Orangeburg Prep downs Heathwood Hall The Indians shut out Heathwood Hall 6-0 in their first win of the season. Bobby Plumb scored the only points of the game with an 8-yard run. The defense was led by Bryan Love with 12 tackles. Scott Richardson contributed nine tackles and Trey Godowns recovered a fumble. OP will face Thomas Heyward Academy next Thursday. The B-Team game will start at 5. JV will begin play at 7. VOLLEYBALL Lady Wolverines go over .500 RIDGELAND - In a Region 5-AA matchup, Woodland defeated Ridgeland 25-12, 25-8 and 25-9 on Thursday. Leading the Lady Wolverines (5-4, 2-0) were Heather Hill with 13 service points, nine aces and four kills. Woodland plays host to Wade Hampton on Tuesday. Bethune-Bowman splits tri-match SANTEE - Bethune-Bowman split a tri-match with Lake Marion and North on Thursday. The Lady Mohawks suffered its first loss of the season in a 25-19, 25-15 match to Lake Marion on Thursday. Leading the Lady Mohawks were Jasmine Shuler with eight service points and LaQuanda Williams with seven dinks. Bethune-Bowman won a three-setter with North 25-8, 15-25 and 15-7. Mya Berry had nine service points and three kills, Franchesca Hook with six service points and Shuler with seven service points, Bethune-Bowman (3-1) will open Region 6-A play Tuesday with a tri-match with Military and Academic Magnet. Lady Cavaliers swept by RWA WINNSBORO - Calhoun Academy dropped a five-set varsity match to Richard Winn Academy 17-25, 25-19. 25-21, 15-25 and 6-15 on Thursday. Kristen Minnich had 12 kills and four blocks and Kelsey Sanders had 11 kills for the Lady Cavaliers (6-2). Calhoun Academy also lost the junior varsity match in two sets 15-25, 10-25. The two teams return home Monday for a match against Laurence Manning Academy.
O-W will be in action next Thursday at home against Fort Dorchester.
Cougars sweep Branchville defeated Academic Magnet 25-12 and 25-11 at home. Victoria Coleman led the way to victory with 11 service points, eight aces, and a kill. Chenise Stokes pitched in with seven service points, three aces and three assists. The JV team will travel compete against Cross and Baptist Hill in a trimatch at Cross. The match will start at 5:30. The varsity team could not be completed due to a leak in the roof. Before the game was stopped Branchville held a 2-1 lead over Academic Magnet. KaAnn Murray had a perfect serving percentage with 12 service points, 14 assists, four aces, and two kills. Savannah Connor had 11 service points, six aces, six kills, and a block. Courtney Simmons had seven kills and two blocks while Miranda Nichols added 10 assists. GOLF Hillcrest to hold monthly senior tournament The Hillcrest Golf Club will host its monthly seniors golf tournament today, beginning with a shotgun start at 9 a.m. A per participant entry fee of $20 for members, $25 for nonmembers will include golf, lunch and prizes. The tournament is open to all senior golfers ages 50 and over. For additional information, or to sign up, please contact the Hillcrest Pro Shop at 803-533-6030. Course to hold Day-night event Kountryside Golf Course will hold a DAY-NIGHT tournament on Saturday, Sept. 22. The format will be two-person captain choice. The day tournament will begin at 5 pm from the white tees and the night tournament will be a Par-3 beginning at 8:30 pm. Supper will be served after the day tournament. Edisto defeated Wade Hampton in three sets 25-9, 25-17, and 25-11. Summer Newman had a team-high 16 service points with eight aces and four kills. Molly Bookhart had 14 service points, three aces, two kills, and two blocks in the win.
The win gives the Cougars a 6-0 record. they will host Barnwell on Tuesday. The JV match will start at 4:30 p.m. and varsity is scheduled to play at 6 p.m.
