SOCCER



Bouchette’s two goals

lift OCA to victory



Michael Bouchette scored both goals to lead Orangeburg Christian Academy to a 2-0 victory over Ferndale Christian School on Tuesday.

Travis Loadholt and Chase Ridgeway each had two saves for the Patriots, who next play Grace Christian School on Tuesday at 4 p.m.

 

VOLLEYBALL



Lady Bulldogs defeated by Coastal Carolina

Coastal Carolina swept South Carolina State in three sets 30-23, 30-21, and 30-16.

Chelsy Kimes led the Lady Chanticleers with 13 kills and 12 digs in the win. Brett Starbuck added 10 digs while Jill Nyhof pitched in with nine kills and four digs.

The Lady Bulldogs (5-11) were led by Monique Walker with nine digs, five kills, and two aces. Erinn Phillips contributed 14 assists and four digs.

SCSU will be in action at Winston-Salem State in tournament play on Friday starting at 1 p.m.



 



Pantherettes fall to Fort Valley State



Fort Valley State University defeated Claflin University (1-7) 24-30, 23-30, 30-27, 23-30 in volleyball action.

Pacing the Lady Wildcats of Fort Valley State: Latoya Reeves with 25 kills, and Raven Wynn with 15 kills. Sherrian Norris had 54 assists for Fort Valley State.

Claflin was led by Shavonna Andrews with 12 kills and 10 digs, Tashia Stewart added 11 kills. Sheena Johnson contributed 30 assists for the Pantherettes.

The Pantherettes will be in action on September 26 at Voorhees College in Denmark at 6:00 p.m.

 



Branchville wins tri-match

CROSS -- Branchville defeated Cross and Baptist Hill in a Region 6-A tri-match.

Branchville beat Cross 25-13, 25-7 and Baptist Hill 25-0, 25-13.

In the 25-0 over Baptist Hill, KaAnn Murray shined with 25 straight service points, 18 of which were aces.

Murray finished with 34 points, 23 aces and four assists; Savannah Connor had 23 service points, 21 aces, 1 block and two kills. Courtney Simmons had five kills.

In JV action, Branchville defeated Cross 25-9, 25-20.

Elizabeth Ecklar led Branchville with six points, two aces and one kill. Bethany Hughes had three kills, two blocks and two assists.

The varsity (5-2) and the JV (7-0) both travel to Cordova to take on Edisto this afternoon. JV gets underway at 4:30 with the varsity scheduled to go at 6 p.m.

 

Woodland downs Wade Hampton

BYRDS -- Woodland defeated Wade Hampton 25-18, 25-11, 25-9.

Sharetha Benefield led the Lady Wolverines with nine aces and 15 points. Heather Hill had six kills.

Wade Hampton’s JV defeated Woodland 17-25, 25-21, 23-25.

Both the Woodland JV and varsity teams travel to Cordova to take on Ediston Thursday.



 



Holly Hill Academy beats Laurence Manning



MANNING -- The Lady Raiders extended their winning streak to nine by defeating Laurence Manning in four sets 25-23, 22-25, 25-9, and 25-10.

Victoria Way led the team with 35 assists, three kills, three digs, an ace, and a block. Carlie Franklin added 14 kills, six aces, and four digs. Mary Auburn Shuler totaled 13 kills, 10 digs, five aces and a block in the win. Wehme Caroline Hutto contributed with 12 digs, seven kills, and a block.

The JV team lost their match tonight dropping their record to 4-3.

HHA will put their winning streak on the line when they travel to Florence Christian Academy on Friday.

 



Bethune-Bowman splits matches with Academic Magnet and Military Magnet



BOWMAN -- The Lady Mohawks (4-2, 1-1) were defeated by Academic Magnet 25-7, 14-25, and 25-20.

Mya Berry had a team-high nine service points and five kills. Rhonda Hook chipped in with six service points and seven dinks.

Bethune-Bowman later defeated Military Magnet in the tri-match 25-20 and 25-15.

Franchesca Hook led the team with 13 service points while Jolena Branch and Keyuana Thomas each added seven service points.

The Lady Mohawks will host Cross and Military Magnet in a tri-match next Tuesday.

 



JV Bruinettes

win match



The Orangeburg-Wilkinson junior varsity volleyball team defeated Berkeley 25-16, 21-25 and 15-11 on Tuesday.

Chelsey Thompson had 19 service points, Carissa Waddell had five service points, Jasmine Carson had six assists and Chymaine Guinyard had three blocks and five assists for the JV Bruins (3-5).

O-W plays host to James Island on Thursday at 4:30 p.m.

 



Lady Cougars

stay perfect



CORDOVA - In a Region 5-AA match, Edisto remained undefeated after defeating Barnwell 25-6, 25-18 and 25-13 on Tuesday.

For the Lady Cougars (7-0, 3-0) Molly Bookhart had 15 service points, four kills and two kills, Kayse Sheetz had 15 service points, four aces and a kill and Hailey Carson with six kills.

Edisto plays Branchville at home today.

 



FOOTBALL

O-W Fan Bus Headed for Fort Dorchester



The Bruins will provide bus transportation to the game against Fort Dorchester on Friday. The bus will be located in the student parking lot and is scheduled to leave at 5:45. The cost for admission is $25, which includes the price for the game ticket, travel, and snack.

Course to hold

Day-night event



Kountryside Golf Course will hold a DAY-NIGHT tournament on Saturday.

The format will be two-person captain choice. The day tournament will begin at 5 p.m. from the white tees and the night tournament will be a Par-3 beginning at 8:30 pm. Supper will be served after the day tournament. Please call 803-536-5888 for more information or to register.
