Fun, food and more abound at S.C. State Fair
By T&D Staff Thursday, October 04, 2007COLUMBIA -- Rides, games, live entertainment, cotton candy, corn dogs, elephant ears, livestock and art exhibits. You can find all this, and much more, at the 2007 South Carolina State Fair, which begins when gates open at 3 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 10, at the S.C. State Fairgrounds in Columbia.
Opening day gate admission will be $1 per person. Gate admission for the remainder of the fair -- through Sunday, Oct. 21 -- is $7 for youth and adults, $5 for seniors 55 years of age and older, $2 for children ages 2 to 5 and free for children under 2. Advance purchase discounts are available.
Enjoy fair rides with pay-one-price vouchers on Oct. 10, 11, 12, 15, 16, 17 and 18. In advance, vouchers are available for $16; during the fair, they will be $20. A 26-coupon ride voucher will also be available in advance for $16, and 22-coupon vouchers will be available at the fair for $20.
Advance gate tickets and ride vouchers can be purchased by calling 803-256-2941 or 1-888-444-3247; at select Piggly Wiggly stores statewide; or at S.C. State Fair ticket box offices.
Performing on the .jpgi Grandstand stage will be Daughtry and Day of Fire, Oct. 11; Sara Evans and Craig Morgan, Oct. 12; MercyMe, Monk & Neagle and Aaron Shust, Oct. 13; Josh Turner, Oct. 14; The Jonas Brothers, Oct. 15; Omarion and Ruben Studdard, Oct. 18; and Third Day, Oct. 19. Concerts are $10 and $15. Lee Greenwood will perform a free concert Oct. 17. Tickets are available at www.scstatefair.org/state-fair/advance-tickets.php or by phone at 1-800-514-3849. All concert seats are reserved and require a ticket. Price does not include gate admission.
Other special attractions include the Mutual of Omaha Wild Kingdom Adventure Tour; Wizards Challenge; Mechwars Robot Challenge; Vocal Trash; Jigu! Thunder Drums of China; Horses, Horses, Horses; local art displays; and more.
