'Healthy Halloween'
By JAN JORDAN, T&D Correspondent Monday, October 15, 2007ST. MATTHEWS - Calhoun County Emergency Services and the Rotary Club are cosponsoring an event called "Healthy Halloween" for kids of all ages on Halloween night, Oct. 31.
The program, planned for 4-8 p.m., will be held at the EMS building at 201 Mills Street, St. Matthews.
The focus of the event will be for health care agencies to provide children with healthy, safe Halloween treats. Representatives of the health care agencies participating will be in front of their displays, and decorations will be festive but not frightening.
William Minikiewicz of Sandy Run, Calhoun County EMS director, said ambulances, police cars, fire trucks and S.C. Highway Patrol cars will be out front for the kids to see and ask questions about.
Among the treats for the kids will be First Aid kits, toothbrushes, coloring books, stickers and stamps.
The event will take place indoors, rain or shine, Minikiewicz said. Participants will include the St. Matthews Fire Department, the St. Matthews Police Department, the S.C. Highway Patrol, Calhoun County EMS, health care facilities and dental offices.
Healthy Halloween is held annually and is open to the public.
