A head-on two-vehicle collision early Saturday morning claimed the life of a Georgia man.
A 2002 Mercedes-Benz was traveling east on U.S. 178 in Orangeburg County; and a 2000 Chevrolet 4-door was traveling west on U.S. 178. These two vehicles hit head on at about 4:20 a.m. five miles north of Rowesville. Arthur Benjamin Sheppard II, 34, of Grovetown, Ga., the driver of the Mercedes-Benz, was killed. Sheppard was not wearing a seat belt. The driver of the 2000 Chevrolet 4-door was airlifted to Palmetto Richland. There were two passengers in the Mercedes-Benz. One was taken to the Regional Medical center, while the other was taken to Palmetto Richland. The SC Highway Patrol MAIT Team is investigating the collision. No further details will be made available until their investigation in complete.
