250 losing jobs as call center near SC coast closes

GOOSE CREEK, S.C. - A call center for a rental car company is closing in Goose Creek, putting 250 workers out of a job.

The call center for Enterprise Rent-A-Car will close by June 1 and reroute calls to centers in St. Louis and Salt Lake City, as well as a new facility being built in Eugene, Ore.

Company spokeswoman Laura Bryant says the Goose Creek center and its technology are outdated.

The $10 million call center was opened a decade ago to handle reservations for National Car Rental and, later, Alamo Car Rental.

Both companies were owned by Vanguard Car Rental, which was bought earlier this year by Enterprise.
