Lady Tigers win at home

DENMARK -- The Voorhees College Lady Tigers snapped a three game losing streak with a home win Thursday evening over former EIAC rival Benedict College, 58-55. Voorhees was lead by Brittney Whaley with a game-high 17 points and Rhadja Page knocked down 14. Benedict College, a member of the SIAC and NCAA Division II, was lead by Diundria Doughty with 15 points and Charvez Holmes with 13. Voorhees led at the half 29-26. With this win, the Lady Tigers improve to 8-5 overall.

On Sunday, Voorhees will be back in NAIA basketball action taking on the defending NAIA Division one Independent champions, Brescia University of Owensboro, KY., in a rematch of last season's regional championship.

Denmark-Olar beats Edisto

CORDOVA -- Kenneth Jennings hauled in a fullcourt pass from Willie Carter and laid the ball in at the buzzer to give Denmark-Olar (1-2) a 48-46 win over Edisto.

Edisto tied the game with two free throws with two seconds to play to set up the play.

"I am glad to see them get a win," D-O head coach Andrae Rice said of his team. "Hopefully, that can help get us back on the right track."

Khalief Whetstone led Edisto with 12 points and Trevor Workman added 10. Jennings finished with nine. Quentin Floyd led Edisto with 21.

D-O hosts H-K-T tonight.

Holly Hill downs St. John's

ST. GEORGE -- The Holly Hill Raiders (5-1) defeated St. John's Academy 48-33 at Dorchester Academy.

Michael Simmons posted a double-double (11 points and 10 rebounds). Lanier Cason, Jamie Bull, and Chance Shelley each had eight points. Shelley also had nine rebounds.

The Raiders will be in action on Tuesday at home against Thomas Sumter at 4:00 p.m.

Varsity Girls

Lady Cougars fall to Denmark-Olar

CORDOVA -- The Lady Vikings (3-1) topped Edisto 49-39.

D-O was led by Kayla Hartwell with 20 points. Sherrika Johnson scored 10 points while L.jpgah Freeman and Ginger Gregg chipped in with nine and seven points respectively.

Latoya Holman led the Lady Cougars with 18 points. Ebony Maxwell ended the night with 10 and Adria Darby had six points in the loss.

D-O will host Hunter-Kinard-Tyler tonight at 6:30 p.m.

Lady Raiders to play for tournament title

WALTERBORO -- The Holly Hill Lady Raiders (4-1) now have the chance to play for the Colleton Prep Tournament championship after knocking off Jefferson Davis 50-42.

Leading the way for HHA was Cara Hutto with 11 points and 13 rebounds. Roberta Shuler scored 10 in the win while Mary Auburn Shuler and Hannah Way each ended the night with eight points.

JDA's leading scorer was Megan Huber with 17 points. Roxanne Morgan put up 11 and Donna Holladay chipped in with 10 points.

The Lady Raiders will play for the tournament title on Saturday at 2:30.

Lady Cavaliers beat Carolina Academy

ST. MATTHEWS -- Calhoun Academy (4-2) defeated Carolina Academy 39-26.

Jessica Lyons had 11 deflections. Kelsey Sanders and Rachel Rose each came up with five.

In JV action, Calhoun Academy (1-3) lost to Carolina Academy 21-15.

The Lady Cavs will host St. John's on Monday. The JV game starts at 4 p.m.

B-team Basketball

CEMS wins road game

ESTILL - Carver-Edisto Middle School defeated Estill 34-28 in B-team basketball on Thursday.

Clyde Johnson and Dontrell Sharperson each scored 13 points for Carver-Edisto (2-0), who next play at Denmark-Olar on Monday.
