DENMARK -- Global warming isn't just being discussed nationally and internationally. It's an important topic here at home.

The Voorhees College Global Warming Symposium, being organized by the Voorhees College Focus the Nation Initiative, will be held on the college's Denmark campus on Jan. 31 as part of the national effort to build a dialogue at more than 1,000 colleges, universities, high schools, middle schools, places of worship, civic organizations and businesses. The effort is aimed at directly engaging millions of students and citizens with the nation's decision-makers.

According to Dr. Anne Osano, program coordinator, Voorhees College "is helping move America beyond fatalism to a determination to face up to this civilizational challenge, the challenge of our generation."

Osano noted that the scie.jpgic community has reached a strong consensus that the earth is warming largely as the result of emissions of carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases from human activities including industrial processes, fossil fuel combustion and changes in land use such as deforestation.

Members of the Voorhees College Focus the Nation Team are: Dr. Doris Ward, chair of the Arts and Sciences Division; Dr. Lugenia Rochelle, dean of general studies; Dr. Joshua Oyekan, professor of psychology; Dr. Ira Johnson, professor and chaplain; Dr. Menna Shukla, Arts and Sciences.

For more information, contact Dr. Anne Osano at aosano@voorhees.edu.
