NORTH -- A special concert to raise money for Livingston Christian Academy will be held 7 p.m. Friday, Dec. 14, at St. Andrews United Methodist Church in Orangeburg.

Livingston Christian Academy was established in the fall of 1997, offering classes for children in kindergarten and first grade. Ten years later, the school, which is presently located on 10 acres of land just outside North, continues despite a suspected electrical fire that engulfed the Livingston location on Sept. 22, 2000.

Today, LCA provides a Christian curriculum and strong academic base for children grades K-4 through ninth grade, says Ronda Smith, principal. There are currently 28 students enrolled.

Smith, known for her love for music and the joy of sharing it with others, says her piano playing has taken her all over South Carolina, out in the mission field and "wherever the door opens" for her to share her gift.

Recently, Smith felt called to make a CD of worship songs for the Lord.

"I called SoundLab Studio in Lexington that week and set up an appointment to start the process. Even though I did not have enough money to do it, I believed if God spoke it, it would be provided," Smith said. "And, yes, he did provide. It came through gifts from some of his precious people. Some I knew; some I had never met.

"Were there obstacles? More than I could tell you. But those just fueled the determination that it had to happen."

Smith said Friday's night of celebration will be a gift to the Orangeburg community.

"The students of LCA and I will be bringing yuletide songs and carols for (the community's) enjoyment," she said.

Smith will also perform selections from her CD titled "My Tribute," which will be available with a $15 donation to Livingston Christian Academy. LCA is a nonprofit organization, and donations are tax deductible. Smith's CD is also available at businesses in Orangeburg, St. Matthews, Bowman and North.
