Girl Scouts plan to hold more Soup Kitchens
By SHERRYL PETERS, T&D Correspondent Tuesday, January 08, 2008NORWAY -- More than 70 people enjoyed the Norway Girl Scouts free Soup Kitchen during the holidays. The meal was served at the Three Crosses Ministry building and consisted of chicken soup, vegetable soup, beef soup, peanut butter and jelly sandwiches and ham and cheese sandwiches.
The Soup Kitchen was started as a Gold Award project by Girl Scouts Shaytoria Peeples and Rasia Steadman.
Peeples said their original idea was to provide two events. However, since the events were so well received, their troops (356, 407 and 486) have decided to continue the Soup Kitchens on a monthly basis.
The next Soup Kitchen will be held later this month.
According to Troop Leader Bessie Peeples, "People were ready as soon as we got here. Everybody said the food was good and they enjoyed it. And, Shaytoria and Rasia took about a dozen meals to elderly and shut-ins."
