Voter Voices: Cordova residents contemplating choices
By T&D Staff Tuesday, January 15, 2008With the South Carolina Presidential Primary and Caucus approaching for Republicans Jan. 19 and Democrats Jan. 26, it's time for South Carolinians to narrow down their choices.
Here's what a few residents in Cordova said about themselves as voters and what they're looking for in a candidate.
Mary Rickenbaker, who's been voting for the past 30 years, is looking for specific characteristics in a presidential candidate which may come in a Democrat or Republican.
"Basically, someone who has good moral values, good character, who's interested in the future of our country and basically in our children and education," Rickenbaker said when asked what type of presidential candidate she's looking for.
"For the last few years I have voted Republican, but I'm thinking about possibly changing that because there's a Democratic candidate or two that I think might be good for this country," she said.
Megan Gramling was a first-time voter in the last presidential election, and the party she chooses typically depends on the candidates' issues. In the last election she voted Democratic but this year, she's undecided.
"I'll be honest with you, I really don't know because I haven't really heard all of the debates going on," Gramling said when asked who she's voting for in the upcoming presidential election. "I'm looking for someone who can help with the health insurance, to bring our boys home, and that's willing to help the economy."
Juanita Ritchie, who's looking forward to changes in health care and help for those overcome by poverty, knows exactly who she's voting for in the upcoming Primary.
"I'm voting for Hillary because I think she's the one for the job," she said. "I think she's got the experience and the durability, because she stood by her husband when he was in office, and I think she'll make a good president.

It is truly time that we as a country get away from the same ol song and dance that has gotten this country in the predicament that it is in today. No more Bush and No more Clinton.
These 2 families have been controlling our lives for almost 20 years, and enough is enough!
Everyone has a right to vote, and vote their own conscious, not yours and not mine. To want someone to vote for a particular party just for the sake of voting for a party is irresponsible and dangerous. That kind of thinking is why we are where we are today. So I ask you to do your part and just encourage people to vote.
If you don't like the democrats or republicans, and have such great ideas, run for public office and bring about change. As the old saying goes, its better to have remain silent and just be thought of as a fool.......
Its insane to degrade a political party just because it is a political party. I no longer have to wonder why our society is the way it is, the reasons appear before me on a daily basis.
Enuff Said!

Agree on the lack of substance in candidates.
Should old folks get vouchers from education taxation to pay for meds? Should couples with no children get a voucher from education funds to train their poodle?

It is called the times and DEMOCRAT.
Should be called the scsu news letter.
You will vote for Fred Thompson if my stereotyping of you is accurate. Am I right?
P.S. Did you look at my last response to your pro vouchers for private education comments? (Advanced search "governor defers" 2 weeks back)
