Special to The T&D

Hailed by critics as "a grand departure from the usual," Manhattan Piano Trio is currently one of the most prominent, exciting and actively emerging chamber music groups in America.

Orangeburg County Fine Arts Center will present MPT in concert at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 23, at the center. Tickets are currently available for $10. For reservations, call 803-536-4074.

MPT is comprised of pianist Milana Strezeva, violinist Dmitry Lukin and cellist Dmitry Kouzov, all of whom are award-winning soloists in their own right. The "Dmitrys" are from St. Petersburg, Russia, and met Strezeva, a Moldavia-born American pianist, literally "on the front s.jpg" of New York City's The Juilliard School during the summer of 2004. Since that meeting, MPT has performed more than 250 concerts in 25 U.S. states at many prestigious venues.

MPT was grand prize winner of the 2007 Yellow Springs Chamber Music Competition, the 2006 Plowman Competition and runner-up at the 2006 Chesapeake International Competition. The trio was also the recipient of the 2007 ABC-Classic FM Listener's Choice Award at the Melbourne Music Competition in Australia.

In addition to their demanding concert and recording schedule, MPT is committed to educating the next generation of audience by regularly giving concerts and special children's shows at schools. As part of their outreach, MPT was one of the first chamber music groups to perform in post-Katrina New Orleans. To learn more about the trio, visit its Web site at www.manhattanpianotrio.com.

The arts center performance is made possible through a grant from the Orangeburg Historical and Fine Arts Endowment.
