Bar-B-Que Cook-Off March 7-8; Application deadline for Calhoun

ST. MATTHEWS -- A southern favorite, good old barbecue, will be part of Calhoun County's 100-Year Celebration.
The Calhoun County Museum and Cultural Center, in cooperation with St. Matthews American Legion Post 12 and the Calhoun County Relay for Life, will sponsor an official SCBA Barbeque Cook-Off March 7-8 as part of the county's centennial bash.
All proceeds will go to the Relay for Life, American Legion scholarships and Boy's State. The event will be held at the Tri-County Electric Cooperative grounds on U.S. 176 near St. Matthews.
The number of cooking teams will be limited to a maximum of 20. Team entry donation is $200, and cash prizes will be awarded.
Whole hogs will be supplied to each team. Winning teams will be selected by official South Carolina Barbeque Association judges, and prizes will be awarded as follows: First place, $1,200; second place, $750; third place, $350 and fourth place, $100. The $200 fee must be received with each application form no later than Feb. 1.
Wings and sandwiches will be served to the teams on Friday night. No "Anything But" competition will be allowed, and the event will be alcohol free. Each team will be limited to four members, and the teams will not be required to serve barbecue to the public.
