Men's College Basketball

Claflin 75, Lane College 52

The Claflin University men's basketball team cruised to its 20th win of the season with a 75-52 win over Lane.

The Panthers finished the first half with a 17-7 run to lead at the break 38-26. With Phillip Brown leading the Panthers with 15 first-half points. Brown was 3-3 from the 3-point line in the first half. The Panthers came out of the locker room and extended their lead to 21 points with 14:36 left. Claflin's lead ballooned to 64-36 with 9:27 left to play.

Brown led all scorers with 22 points and Ernest Sinkfield and Benjamin Lawman added 13 point each for the Panthers. Lane College was led by Lincoln Blache with 15 points.

Up next for Claflin will be a Homecoming matchup with Paine College at Augusta State University this Saturday at 8 p.m.

Women's College Basketball

Claflin 77, Lane 75

Claflin Squeezed past the Lady Dragons of Lane College 77-75.

Claflin's Donisha Albert had a game-high 27 points. The Lady Panthers found themselves down by 6 points 65-59 with 6:44 left in the game. After a timeout by Coach Samuels of Claflin. The Lady Panthers went on a 15-10 run at the 1:44 mark, to trail by just a point 74-75. Donisha Albert connected on 2-2 from the free-throw line and Tiffany Smalls went 1-2 from the stripe as CU went up 77-75 with :14 left to play. A costly turnover by the Lady Dragons denied them from attempting a shot, and Claflin ran out the clock for their 17th victory 77-75.

Kim Carter-Jones led the Lady Dragons with 18 points. Angela Webb added 15 points. And Bryttany Gant finished with 11 points for Lane College.

To go along with Alberts' 27 points, were Latoya Savage with 17 points. Tiffany Smalls and Jayshaun Bailey each added 12 points to the Lady Panther cause.

The Lady Panthers travel to Augusta, GA on Saturday evening for a Homecoming game with Paine College at 6:00 pm.

Coastal Carolina 73, Charleston Southern 66

CONWAY - In a Big South matchup pitting two former T&D All-Region players against each other, the Lady Chanticleers rallied for a conference victory on Tuesday.

Senior Vicky Blanchard, formerly of Holly Hill-Roberts, had a career-best 24 points, 22 of them in the first half, and sophomore Lacey Lyons hit three, 3-pointers in the second half to lead Coastal Carolina.

Blanchard was 8-of-11 from the field, a perfect 4-of-4 from 3-point range and 2-of-2 from the line in the first half. She already eclipsed her career high in the first half, while Lyons added eight points. Lyons and freshman Sydnei Moss had three assists apiece.

Coastal Carolina (14-6, 2-3) led by as many as 17 points in the first half, but Charleston Southern got within a point late on a free throw by former T&D Region and S.C. Basketball Coaches Association Player of the Year Crystal Robinson of Hunter-Kinard-Tyler.

Robinson finished with nine points in a losing effort for the Lady Cougars (7-16, 2-4), who were led by Natalie Caldwell's 18 points and 16 from Pam Tolbert.

Coastal Carolina wraps up the first half of the Big South schedule Saturday at High Point.

Varsity Boys

Bamberg-Ehrhardt 55, Denmark-Olar 45

BAMBERG -- Bamberg-Ehrhardt clinched a region championship with the victory.

Eric Buckner led the way for the Red Raiders (15-5, 9-1) with 15 points, 15 rebounds and six blocks. Chris Presley had 12 points, 10 rebounds, six assists and three steals, and Jakhiry Johnson had 12 points and six steals. Khalief Whetstone led Denmark-Olar with 14 points and Anthony Holman had 12.

Orangeburg-Wilkinson 40, Berkeley 39

MONCKS CORNER -- Jayson Leverett's layup as time expired allowed the Bruins to clinch second place in Region 7-AAAA on Tuesday and a first-round home playoff game.

Jared Williams had 12 points and Leverett finished with nine for O-W (11-11, 6-3), which closes out the regular season Friday at home against James Island.

Andrew Jackson Academy 58, Clarendon Hall 45

SUMMERTON -- Bradley Priester scored 19 points, Bryan Bishop added 15 and Ryan Fender had 10 points to lead the Confederates.

Cameron Oswald scored 20 points and Ravi Patel and Orry Hodge each added eight points for the Saints (8-11, 7-5), who travel to Bowman Academy on Friday.

Wade Hampton 58, Woodland 54

BYRDS -- DeKendall Carn led Woodland with 14 points in the overtime loss.

Marquise Carson added 10 for the Wolverines (8-14, 3-7). Josh James led Wade Hampton with 23 points; Jeremy Ford had 11 and Anthony Orr 10.

Strom Thurmond 55, Swansea 52

JOHNSTON -- Trenton Green led the Tigers with 21 points and 10 rebounds in the loss.

Tim McNeal added 12 points and 10 rebounds for Swansea (13-9, 3-6).

The Tigers travel to Chapin Thursday.

Wilson Hall 53, Orangeburg Prep 37

SUMTER -- Benae Ritter led the Indians with 12 points in the loss.

Evan Salley added nine for the Indians (10-12, 3-4). Reid Schwartz led Wilson Hall with 16.

OPS goes on the road to take on Robert E. Lee Friday.

Calhoun Academy 40, Holly Hill Academy 31

ST. MATTHEWS -- Travis Riley led Calhoun Academy with 11 points.

Andrew Robinson had eight points and William Granger seven for Calhoun (7-13, 3-1).

Varsity Girls

Bamberg-Ehrhardt 56, Denmark-Olar 38

BAMBERG -- Brittany Barnwell scored 14 points and had four assists to lead Bamberg.

Gloria Wheeler added 13 points and three steals for the Red Raiders (5-13, 3-7); Kelsey Ritari had nine points, Critophia Smart had nine points and six assists. L.jpgah Freeman led D-O with 12 points.

Orangeburg-Wilkinson 56, Berkeley 36

MONCKS CORNER -- Erica Sumpter's double-double and La'teia Brailey's 12 points, eight assists and six steals helped the Bruinettes wrap up a second straight Region 7-AAAA title and 21st overall on Tuesday.

Sumpter finished with 13 points, 14 rebounds and four blocks while Cherisha Floyd added seven points and six rebounds.

O-W (20-2, 9-0) will close out the regular season Friday at home against James Island.

Woodland 35, Wade Hampton 29

BYRDS -- Raven Wamer scored 10 points to keep the Lady Wolverines (17-5, 9-1) in the running for the Region 5-AA title.

If Silver Bluff defeated Barnwell on Tuesday, it would face Woodland in a one-game playoff for the region title tentatively set for 6:30 p.m. Thursday at Edisto High School.

Starr Cree Mixon led all scorers with 14 points for the Lady Red Devils.

Wilson Hall 38, Orangeburg Prep 28

SUMTER -- Whitney Rhoad led OPS with seven points in the losing effort.

Lauren Holley added six for the Lady Indians (16-6, 4-3). Whitney Towns added 11 for Wilson Hall.

Holly Hill Academy 51, Calhoun Academy 34

ST. MATTHEWS -- Stephanie Peagler led HHA with 19 points.

Carlie Franklin added 10 for HHA. Hannah Bozard led Calhoun (12-8) with 11 points.

Calhoun travels to Dorchester Academy Thursday.

JV Boys

Wilson Hall 40, Orangeburg Prep 25

SUMTER -- Neal Smith led OPS with 12 points in the losing effort.

Joe Schriver added seven points for the Indians (13-6). Brandon Murphy led Wilson Hall with 16.

Clarendon Hall 37, Andrew Jackson Academy 32

SUMMERTON -- Hunter Hodges scored 19 points to lead the junior varsity Saints, who improved to 6-9 overall, 6-3 in the region.

Clarendon Hall travels to Bowman Academy on Friday.

Holly Hill Academy 28, Calhoun Academy 16

ST. MATTHEWS -- Elias Dupree scored nine points and Chris Schaefer added seven for the junior varsity Raiders, who improved to 15-2 overall, 4-0 in region play.

HHA travels to Colleton Prep on Friday.

Bamberg-Ehrhardt 42, Denmark-Olar 33

BAMBERG -- Trey Mintz scored 12 points and grabbed eight rebounds to lead Bamberg to victory.

Casey Tumor added 11 points and six rebounds for the Red Raiders (17-2, 9-1) while Desmond Kelly added eight points and five rebounds.

JV Girls

Orangeburg Prep 32, Wilson Hall 24

SUMTER -- Anna Nash led OPS (17-1, 7-0) with 14 points.

Rachel Kitchings added 10 for the Lady Indians. Emily Cain led Wilson Hall with seven.
