Claflin baseball splits doubleheader

Claflin University's (4-4) baseball team split a doubleheader with Alderson Broadus University Friday evening at Mirmow Field. The Panthers fell 4-3 in the first game.

The Panthers were led at the plate by Robert Platts who was 2-for-4. John Moody, 2-for-4; Paul Carpenter, 1-for-2 with an RBI; Wes Burgess and Shannon Ransom each 1-for-3 with an RBI.

The Panthers fell behind 7-0 in the top of the 2nd inning in the second game, but Andy Till came in relief of Randall Hanna and gave up just one hit and no runs over the rest of the game. Robert Platts hit the game winning double with one out in the bottom of the seventh as the Panthers walked off the field with an 8-7 victory.

Platts went 2-for-4 with 2 RBI; Burgess went 2-for-3 with 2 RBI; John Moody was 1-for-2 with an RBI and Shannon Ransom was 1-for-3 with an RBI.

The Panthers will play Shaw University Saturday at Mirmow Field beginning at 1:00 pm.
