High School Basketball

Varsity Boys

Holly Hill Academy 54, Dorchester Academy 35

WALTERBORO -- Michael Simmons and Stephen Eaddy each had 13 points to lead HHA.

Chance Shelley added 10 points for HHA and Evan Mizzell had 10 for DA.

Holly Hill (17-6) takes on Colleton Prep in the region tournament championship Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. in Walterboro.

Varsity Girls

Bethune-Bowman 47, Timmonsville 40

ROWESVILLE -- LaQuanda Williams scored 19 points and grabbed 11 rebounds to lead the Lady Mohawks past the second round of the playoffs for the first time since 1987.

Somazia Pelzer added 11 points and 11 rebounds, and Ashley McKithen led Timmonsville with 14.

Bethune-Bowman faces Hemmingway on Tuesday at a neutral site.

Bowman Academy 27, St. Francis 22

EHRHARDT -- Katie Bonnett had 11 points and five rebounds to lead Bowman Academy.

Alana Ulmer added nine points and three rebounds for Bowman Academy who will take on Andrew Jackson Academy this afternoon in Ehrhardt at 7 p.m.

Andrew Jackson Academy 45, Covenant Christian 14

EHRHARDT -- Courtney Garcia scored 13 points to lead AJA.

Ashten Murray added eight points for AJA and Victoria McCallister had six points and 10 rebounds. Audrey Carter was the high scorer for Covenant Christian with six points.

AJA will take on Bowman Academy in Ehrhardt at 7 p.m.

Calhoun Academy 45, Colleton Prep 42

WALTERBORO -- Kelsey Sanders had 16 points, seven rebounds, two steals and two assists to lead Calhoun Academy.

Rachel Rose added five points, five steals, four rebounds and three assists. Kristin Minnich had six points and eight rebounds.

CA (14-9) takes on Holly Hill Academy in the region tournament championship Tuesday at Colleton Prep Academy in Walterboro at 6:30 p.m.

Holly Hill Academy 51, Dorchester Academy 36

WALTERBORO -- Stephanie Peagler had 22 points and Roberta Shuler added 12 to lead HHA.

Holly Hill (18-4) takes on Calhoun at 6:30 p.m. in Walterboro Tuesday in the region tournament championship.

JV Boys

Clarendon Hall 31, Glenforest School 21

ESTILL -- Hunter Hodges scored 13 points to lead Clarendon Hall.

The Saints (8-10) take on Patrick Henry for the region tournament title at Patrick Henry at 5:15 p.m. Tuesday.

Orangeburg Prep 33, Laurence Manning 28

Joe Schriver scored 17 points and Thacker Staley added seven to lead OPS.

Ryan Anderson led Laurence Manning with eight points.

OPS (18-6) advance to the title game on Tuesday at the Sumter County Exhibition Center against Wilson Hall.

JV Girls

Orangeburg Prep 32, Thomas Sumter 20

Haley Bozard, Rachel Kitchings and Anna Nash each scored eight points to lead OPS past TSA.

OPS (21-1, 11-0) advances to the region tournament championship Tuesday at 3:30 p.m. against Laurence Manning in the Sumter County Exhibition Center.

All-Area Basketball Nominations

Nominations are now being taken for the 2008 T&D All-Area boys' and girls' basketball teams.

Nominations should included the player's height, weight, class, position and statistics. Coaches may nominate as many players as they would like, but no player will be selected to an All-Area team without nomination.

Boys' and girls' basketball coaches are encouraged to send their nominations to blinder@timesanddemocrat.com.
