SCSU's Ujimaa Dancers & Drummers to perform Friday
By T&D Staff Thursday, February 21, 2008The Ujimaa Dancers & Drummers of South Carolina State University will present the second annual "The Bea.jpgul Juke Joint Coffeehouse & Show" at 6 p.m. Friday, Feb. 22, at the Vaughn Fine Arts Recital Hall on the campus of SCSU.
The event will feature the SCSU Jazz Band and individuals singing, dancing and acting. Vendors will also be on display, and refreshments will be served in the lobby before the show.
Admission is $5 is advance, $3 for senior citizens and students, and $7 at the door. Money raised will go towards costumes and transportation for the Ujimaa Dancers. A portion of the proceeds will also benefit Agape Air Missions in Sarasota, Fla.
The Ujimaa Dancers have been active on the SCSU campus for eight years and boast a membership of 20-plus members. The group performs regularly at events such at the Moja Festival in Charleston, the Penn Center Heritage Day Festival in Beaufort, Trio Day in Orangeburg, weddings and birthday parties.
