In conjunction with 2008 Founders' Day Weekend, the I.P. Stanback Museum and Planetarium on the campus of South Carolina State University will open the exhibition "Hubble Space Telescope: New Views of the Universe."

Beginning at 6 p.m. Saturday, March 1, the exhibition opening will also feature part II of "Harlem on My Mind 1940-1959."

"Hubble Space Telescope: New Views of the Universe" highlights the telescope's contributions to astronomy with stunning images and interactive displays. Visitors will take a tour through the planets, stars and galaxies into the furthest reaches of the universe. They will learn what makes the Hubble Space Telescope unique and how it brings home the dazzling images from space. "Hubble Space Telescope: New Views of the Universe" will continue through June 15.

Maurice Henderson of the NASA/Goddard Space Flight Center, a member of the Stanback Advisory Board and leader of the NASA team that installed the "Hubble" exhibit, will be a special guest at the opening. Tours of the exhibitions, a new planetarium show, Paul Robeson songs by Chief Gregory Harris and music under the stars will also be available, as well as book signings and telescope viewing on the front lawn of the museum. A reception and a wine tasting will be sponsored by Four Moons Wine and Gourmet of Orangeburg.
