DENMARK -- Claflin University swept a doubleheader from Voorhees College Wednesday afternoon.
Claflin won the first game 13-11. Robert Platts went 3-for-3 to lead Claflin; Wesley Burgess went 2-for-4 with three RBIs, John Moody was 3-for-5 with three RBIs, Reggie Taylor was 2-for-3 with an RBI and Shannon Ransom was 2-for-3.
The Panthers won the second game in eight innings, 7-6.
Leading Claflin at the plate were Platts, who was 2-for-2 with two RBIs; Reggie Taylor who was 2-for-4 with two RBIs, Shannon Ransom who was 2-for-3 and Trivon Howard who was 1-for-4 with a home run and two RBIs.
The Panthers will be idle until February 29, 2008 when Clark-Atlanta comes to town for a 4:00 p.m. game at Mirmow Field.
Vicks and Ledbetter lead Claflin at Clemson Invitational
The Claflin thinclads returned to the Clemson University indoor track for a meet over the weekend.
Kyle Vicks played eighth in the 400-meter dash with a time of 49.82 for the Panthers, and Nick Ledbetter placed fifth in the high jump with a jump of 6-7.5. It was a season best for each athlete.
On the girls' side, several athletes had season bests led by Ambria Turner, who completed the 400-meter dash in 1:05.21; Aria Nicholson in the shot put (32-2.75) and the women's 4x400 relay team of LaKeya Sanders, Carissa Walls, Paula Alford and Turner ran a 4:17:08.
The meet concluded the indoor season. Claflin's next meet will be an outdoor meet at Charleston Southern University on March 8.

Orangeburg Prep 4, Bamberg-Ehrhardt 1
Cody Campbell had two goals to lead OPS to a scrimmage victory.
Stuart Dudley and Megan Goodwin each had a goal for OPS; Chris Williams had two assists and Michael Williamson had nine saves in goal.
OPS hosts Eau Claire in a scrimmage at 6 p.m. Tuesday.

All-Area Basketball Nominations
Nominations are now being taken for the 2008 T&D All-Area boys' and girls' basketball teams.
Nominations should included the player's height, weight, class, position and statistics. Coaches may nominate as many players as they would like, but no player will be selected to an All-Area team without nomination.
Boys' and girls' basketball coaches are encouraged to send their nominations to blinder@timesanddemocrat.com.
Williams named WLTX News 19's Player of the Week
Orangeburg-Wilkinson's Jared Williams has been selected as WLTX New 19's Player of the Week and will have a presentation at the school today at 11 a.m.
The News 19 Player of the Week program honors exceptional high school seniors who participate in varsity sports, maintain a high grade point average and are outstanding citizens of their community. Area coaches send letters to News 19 recommending their student athletes.
At the year-end banquet two students are named as a Player of the Year and each receives a $1,000 scholarship from News 19 and our sponsors.

Paw Paw to hold monthly tournament
The Paw Paw Golf Association will hold its monthly tournament Saturday, Feb. 23 at 11 a.m. It will be a two-man, Captain's Choice, blind draw with handicap. You do not have to be a member of Paw Paw, but you must be a member of the association to play. Call (803)-245-4171 for more information.
