Jason Darby to direct

Claflin public relations

Claflin University is embarking on a new communications and marketing initiative to promote the university to a global audience and position the institution as a national resource for information and answers on education and research issues.

In keeping with those objectives, Claflin President Dr. Henry N. Tisdale has announced the appointment of Jason Darby as director of public relations in the Division of Institutional Advancement.

"Mr. Darby brings a great deal of experience and expertise in the area of marketing and media relations for colleges and universities to his role here at Claflin," said Vivian Glover, assistant vice president for communications and marketing. "I am confident that his abilities and experience will be indispensable assets."

Darby's responsibilities include generating and managing local, regional, national and international media publicity for the university.Darby comes to Claflin with more than a decade of experience in higher education communications and marketing. He has previously served as public relations director for Allen University, and in various communications roles for South Carolina State University, including assistant public relations director. He has also taught communications courses at Claflin University and Allen University.

Darby earned a bachelor's degree in professional English from S.C. State and a master of mass communication with an emphasis in integrated communications from the University of South Carolina. He has completed further graphic design, media relations and crisis communications training.

Darby joins a staff that includes Charlene Slaughter, who was appointed as assistant director of public relations in September. Slaughter has a background in print journalism and most recently was employed by The Times and Democrat in Orangeburg as a special assignments reporter. She also previously served as city editor, sports editor and a general assignment reporter during her tenure there.

Hannibal is city exec

for S.C. Community Bank

COLUMBIA -- S.C. Community Bank has promoted Cecil D. Hannibal to Orangeburg city executive, awarding him also the vice president designation.

South Carolina Community Bank was established on March 19, 1999, and is a subsidiary of SCCB Financial Corp. with assets of $75,000,000.

to locate Pageland

COLUMBIA -- Bunting Graphics Inc. announced its decision to locate its new facility in Chesterfield County.

Bunting Graphics Inc. has purchased the Sandpiper building on Gum Street in Pageland for its new operations.

The company, which is more than 130 years old, is headquartered in Verona, Pa.

In addition to the headquarters, Bunting currently has offices in Maryland, New Jersey, and Charlotte. The Charlotte operation is moving to Pageland to expand staff and sales operations.

Bunting, a manufacturer of national stature, fabricates aluminum, steel structures, and custom architectural metals.

The Sandpiper building provides space and room for expansion. About 15 employees will be transferred from Charlotte with 35 jobs added in Pageland.

The Pageland facility will be responsible for the design, engineering, and fabrication of ornamental metals and aluminum fabrications.

CTNA corporate HQ

moving to S.C. in '09

CHARLOTTE -- Continental announced the move of its corporate headquarters for Continental Tire North America Inc. from Charlotte to Lancaster County in South Carolina in 2009.

The new facility will be located approximately 12 miles from the current facility and will house CTNA's corporate work force of more than 300 employees.

CTNA will invest approximately $11 million in land and development of the approximately 75,000-square-foot facility. Construction is under way and is expected to be complete in early 2009.

The facility is being developed by Forsite Development Inc. and will be located in MacMillan Business Park in Lancaster County.

Once complete, the Lancaster County facility will be in addition to Continental's North American facilities in Columbia and Blythewood bringing the total number of employees to more than 750 statewide.

CTNA's production/warehouse facility, which employs approximately 160 employees, is under lease and will remain at its current location in Charlotte.
