Book discussion series starts March 25 at Elloree Museum

ELLOREE, S.C. - The Elloree Heritage Museum & Cultural Center and the Mentor Book Club are co-sponsoring a Humanities Council of South Carolina book series beginning March 25.

The series is free and open to readers in Elloree and surrounding areas.

"All books will be provided to participants, and discussions will be led by area scholars at the museum," said Adadra Williams, museum administrative manager. "Space is limited to 30 participants."

The Humanities Council of South Carolina is a state program of the National Endowment for the Humanities which aims to inspire, engage and enrich South Carolinians with programs on literature, history, culture and heritage.

The book discussion series schedules is as follows:

* Tuesday, March 25, 6:30 p.m. -- "Denmark Vesey" by David Robertson. Discussion will be led by Professor William Hine of S.C. State University.

* Tuesday, April 8, 6:30 p.m. -- "The Water is Wide" by Pat Conroy. Discussion will be led by Dr. Ghussan Greene of S.C. State University.

* Tuesday, April 22, 6:30 p.m. -- "The Keeper of the House" by Rebecca Godwin. Discussion will be led by Dr. Peggy Ratliff of Claflin University.

* Tuesday, May 13, 6:30 p.m. -- "Partisans and Redcoats" by Walter Edgar. Discussion will be led by Dr. Christine R. Swager.

* Tuesday, May 20, 6:30 p.m. -- "Edisto" by Padgett Powell. Discussion will be led by Professor Penny Summers of Orangeburg-Calhoun Technical College.
